It's a pretty good rule-of-thumb to avoid dramatizations of mental health therapy while in therapy. It's easy to get the wrong idea about a lot of things, particularly how long it takes to see improvement. What takes many people years to even become aware of, let alone resolve, is neatly wrapped up entirely by the next commercial break on TV.

I have to say I think having this video in pieces may be the better experience. I find myself ruminating over each chunk for several days at a level of engagement I'm not sure I would reach back-to-back.

On the other hand, the dramatic scene where he swallowed the pills stopped me from thinking he was supposed to have gotten better only because of the love of a good woman. :)

It annoys me that MC and Love Interest banter about the suckiness of medication side effects, and then the side effects are never mentioned after MC starts taking meds again. Not because I believe he shouldn't be on them, but because it's the reason he wasn't before. The omission makes it seem as though his going back on them is only significant in that it showed his making a commitment to facing reality. Which IS important ... just, so are the actual meds.

I begrudgingly admit I love this movie, mainly because of the performances, De Niro, Cooper and Lawrence were absolutely brilliant, I always rewatch at least twice a year and I love it each time, don't love Tiffany's characterization as much for the reasons you explained, but JLaw really made it work.
