Fog Clouds
🕑 Added 2025-04-28 15:00:13 +0000 UTCHello! I hope you had a nice weekend. Today's release can add some more atmosphere to your game project.
You saw an early version of these clouds in the preview recording of my Sky Island tiles from last week. Those clouds were super sketchy and rough-- it was more of a test thing than final assets.
But it seemed like it'd be a good idea to clean them up and share them for today's patreon asset release!
The sheet has 2 sprites (96x48 pixels/6x3 tiles each). I made two variations, and you can also flip them horizontally or vertically for even more variations. In my preview, I even allow some randomized size-scaling for more variety.
Notably: these have some heavy dithering and texture, so they might not look good as regular cloud-clouds-- but instead as a foggy-cloud overlay that makes use of transparency. They could be used as fogs, clouds, steam, etc-- changing up these settings could get a lot of mileage out of these for different areas.
You might remember the atmospheric fog in the future setting of Chrono Trigger-- it was a textured overlay that drifted across the screen-- while my clouds are individual sprites instead of a repeating texture (more versatile this way, I think), these were the main inspiration for today's assets.
I hope that these will be useful for your game world!

To use these in RPGMaker, I'd recommend using them as a picture instead of a specific asset type.

It's made in Game Maker, and it's simply a bunch of slowly-moving objects with some randomization for the sizing and position. If you're using RPGMaker, I imagine that you could make a similar effect by making a parallel process event as a controller that generates the clouds as "pictures" and moves them across the map.
