Huh. Your description of the plot actually sounded pretty interesting, minus the old-timey views on romance and stuff. I'd imagine that actually sifting through the age, translation, and cultural differences would make actually enjoying said plot a bit of an endeavor however.

I'm trying to imagine just how crappy a life I'd have to live that I would decide that living in the sewer was a legit option for me. ... Yeah, no, that's unfathomable to me. Doesn't excuse Erik of his many, many, many crimes but that is a seriously f-ed up situation.

Truthfully, I don't care how many awards it won, the only good thing to me about the Webber musical is it introduces Michael Crawford to America. I hate it. It's a terrible adaptation of a wonderful novel.
