As a fan of paranormal romance, I can confirm that Molly Harper is definitely one of the better writers in the genre. So even without the other horrible books you've read recently, you likely still would have enjoyed this one much more than you anticipated.

Reminds me of Still Life With the Shapeshifter, a surprisingly well written and touching romance involving shapeshifters (though the main love interests are human!) I'd reccommend it on a personal level and as a potential review.

If you ever find the time I can recommend the Psy/Changeling Series by Nalini Singh. While there is Romance and Sex, the world in which it is set is interessting and creative and all the Books have a overarching Plot that thickens significantly the further you get in

At around 10:20, you mention your curiosity regarding typical romance novel fans' appreciation for the book. You use the phrase "deadfully curious", and I'm wondering if that's a flub you missed in the editing, or some new fangled slang I've never heard before.

This is very normal for a well written romance novel. There are of course shitty ones, but this is not an aberration in the genre. Romance novels are not all 50 shades. Most are similar to Molly Harper.
