Was just about to say, I love the Rankin/Bass adaptation.
At 13:33 when you talk about Ralph Bakhsi you actually show footage from Rankin/Bass film he wasn't involved in :/

Basically, William Snyder was Eol the Dark Elf and Gene Dietch was Aredhel.

Was not expecting the song at the end (delightful!). Great work as always.

Tolkien put the caibosh on that himself. He hated The Beatles. Not in general, he had personal beef with them.

The Sexy Adventures of Slag the Dragon Slut is one of Chuck Tingle's more disappointing works.
I'm fascinated by great movies that never got made. Did you know there was once talk of an LOTR adaptation staring the Beatles? They wanted Stanley Kubrick to direct.

This is probably the first LiA that's longer than the movie, huh?
I thought that the pictures looked familiar...they were designed by Adolf Born, the illustrator of many czech cartoons I grew up watching! But normally they are fully animated, not just static images.

If obscure Tolkien adaptations are your cup of tea, there's a zero budget Finnish TV adaptation of the Lord of the Rings called Hobitit uploaded to YouTube in its entirety. It focuses entirely on Frodo and Sam's quest, leaving the rest of the cast mostly out after the first act, but on the other hand, it is the only adaptation to ever feature the Scouring of the Shire in any capacity.

I need Slag Ass Dragon on itunes now!

He also showed footage from Rankin/Bass's 1977 "The Hobbit" and didn't even mention it in his Hobbit movies of days gone by (though I do love that version most). But, you know, easy to get mixed up.

My favorite adaptation is the Rankin/Bass version. And I'm being totally honest.

Love it! Poor Gene Dytch(?)! I feel really sad for him. Great Song!

This is the best outro song so far, hands down. <3
Hey, the return of Reginald !

Yeah, there's a Dinobot that was named Slag for that reason. And then got renamed Slug for the reasons Dom brought up.

Considering the original name Tolkien had in mind for Celeborn, Slag is not that bad...

Fantastic video, Dominic. But I must point out one little mistake before the YouTube commenters have the opportunity to rip you a new one. At 13:32 you mention Bakshi's 1978 version of LoTR...but the footage you are showing is actually from the 1980 Rankin/Bass Return of the King.

Slag is also the impurities scraped off molten iron, most notably during the Bessemer process. Which, yes, is less comedic, but you can see where they chose the name that became dated and silly.

Bravo, Team! This one was exceptional all around from beginning to end.
