nit: the ASCII code just represents the character '*', however in Regular Expressions, that character indicates a wildcard, meaning it can match any string. I think that is what the theory was saying. That would be a clever play on meaning if it is true, involving multiple indirections.

Quick little bit of info you may be able to use (or have fun with): people have been trying to figure out the actual meaning of 42 for awhile. Mr. Adams more or less admitted he made it up, but people who knew him still question him doing anything random without a reason. One of the more recent theories I saw that seems to have a bit more merit than most is that 42 relates to ASCII programming (which allegedly Adams knew and used). Basically, in ASCII, 42 denotes an asterisk, which is ASCII code for "anything" or "anything you want it to be." So the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything could be seen as "anything you want it to be." :)

Wait a minute, so in the grand scheme of the Universe the Earth and its inhabitants is absolutely meaningless . And the Earth was designed to calculate the Ultimate Question to the Meaning of Life. So the Meaning of Life is that there is no meaning and nothing matters?
