Love those rants. You really should do more like this one.

The concept of “alpha males” rose to prominence at that time. A naturalist thought he observed that behavior in wolves and wrote about, but when he discovered he was wrong the concept of alphas was already accepted by society. Thanks, Adam Ruins Everything.

I worked at Hollywood Video when this came out. I never thought I’d have to revisit it again until now. Hopefully for Dom The Covenant isn’t based on some obscure YA novel.

While I haven't read the book so I don't know how it's framed, my first thought about the date-your-own-kind message was not that it was white supremacy. As the werewolves are a small group that are very concerned about protecting themselves, it seems more like the kind of attitudes that can be found in some e.g. Romani and Orthodox Jewish communities, where young people are discouraged from dating outside the community to protect it from assimilation into mainstream society. That being said, in either case, it still sucks for the kids.

Having read a lot of romance novels from the 1960s and 1970s and many of the men were like this. It's like authors are going back to Alpholes (alphas + assholes = Alpholes) instead of writing men that women would actually prefer.
