The Adventures of Tintin - Lost in Adaptation

I Love Tintin! I have loved the comic since I discovered it at the local library when I was 4-5 years old(or younger). It's the only series that made me happy to be a redhead. I also loved the animation series. But this movie was just ok in my book.

The first video I've seen since I joined your patreon and it's a Tintin video! I knew I made a good decision. Your the first person I've seen who doesn't like the extended action scenes. I can understand what you mean about it straying from the comic. On the otherhand it's so visually amazing and so nice to see a movie take full advantage of it's medium. More so for the city chase scene then the battle on the docks.

The only reason I went to see this movie in theaters is because it was a Peter Jackson project. I left disappointed in the story and quality of the film overall.

I have to admit I was a little surprised when you said you thougt you needed to be a Kid to enjoy these books. I remeber finding them in our local Library (As a Kid and in german, mind you) and finding the Plots and references to The Cold war and stuff like that extremely confusing. Maybe I'm just not the right generation... i was about 12 then and am 24 now, so I didn't know much about that Period at the time.

I love it when he is mostly positive with an adaptation. It gives me hope for when the adaptation for my favorite book comes out.

Interestingly enough, it's because the comics are only sometimes awkward rather than intentionally hateful which is why Tinton in the Congo is actually pretty popular in the Congo to this day! Quite a surprise when I found that out.

Tin Tin has a special place in my heart. I went to a French American School so we had all the comic and I loved the cartoon as a kid. I honestly think Tin Tin was my first crush (I was 6).

This was a wonderful surprise to get in my inbox. I'd hoped you'd one day do Tintin but honestly, since you haven't covered a comic book since Watchmen, I never expected it. I grew up on the 90s cartoon series more than the comics but I'm still a big fan. Therefore, I approached this with caution, like you can do when someone's about to review things you like (even when you know the flaws). There are plans for another Tintin film(s). It's just a question of when they intend on working on it. Original plan was for 3 films - one directed by Spielberg, the follow-up by Jackson and the last film a joint effort?! I do hope they continue to follow their original plan. The US audiences never seem interested in something the rest of the world clearly has an interest in, which is where Tintin falls under that category... :p
