I've sometimes felt the show tends to make important characters a bit more one-note than they originally were. Tywin is all about leaving a legacy, Cersei is all about protecting her family, Joffrey is all about being sadistic, Sandor is all about being mercenary. I'm sure there's a reason for it, something about it fitting the medium of tv better due to having limited time, which I get but it still feels like a shame to me.
