The Last Kingdom is set from year 866 - Battle of Eoferwic. Vikings first raid in Lindisfarne was in 793. You can almost see it as a sequel to Vikings but however there is some difference. Vikings is inspired by historical events but is wildy inaccurate when it comes to chronology. The Last Kingdom is more accurate historically. It spans over a much shorter time frame from 866. This show is based on Bernard Cornwell’s novels which are backed up largely by actual historical sources. Existence of many key persons confirmed, though the character development is mostly fictional. And yes, Alfred the Great (founder of England) from The Last Kingdom is the young alfred (Athelstan son) in Vikings.

YEEEEES!! One of the most underrated history shows there is, in my opinion better than Vikings after S4.

My Nephew like this show I don't like it as much but it is a good show,have a lot of friends that love it. Maybe you can fine the trailer for Black Sails and check that out to.

Yes, what Ashley said. A great book series that my mother gave me to read by Bernard Cornwell. I haven't really gotten into the TV series (its all very gory!) but I do love the books (and Uhtred is a great fictional character living out his life in historical England during the time of unification). So a wonderful way to learn some of that history as well. My family name comes from Northern England so I always imagine there may be Viking blood in there somewhere! LOL

OK, no, it's a TOTALLY different story and motivations. Not a retelling.. long before Vikings. Like 8 books, The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. Uhtred, (hot guy/Jon snow figure; THE DUDE as Steve would say!) is half Anglo-Saxon heir, stolen & raised Viking, as you see in trailer. But yes, they have few names you'll know, but they are NOT the same people. But that king is Alfred... older. That's just historical, not in relation to Vikings.I love the show because it's all heart, swords, brutality of that world, and a period piece,; unique complexity among it's lead character. Can't wait for you to watch!!

The Last Kingdom and Vikings use the SAme people....Last Kingdom is more historical...Characters are used a but differently.....but yes that was Alfred.

YAY! Thanks for watching. Definitely agree, this is 100% a REACTION show. TLK has A LOT of crazy diehard fans that would love to watch with you guys!! Bonus: this is a show that has gotten better with each passing season. S4 begins next week so there will be a TON of interest in the fandom for anything associated with it.
