Later in the night, Jackal and Lili enter the dungeon as usual. They intend to make the most out of their day with Lili, for once, buying a spear for herself and requesting to deal with a goblin one at a time. She had been worried that she'd come off as a bit pathetic but... the huge smile on Jackal's face was anything but the confirmation of her insecurities.
"You have to start somewhere, right? Let's start with a single goblin and grow stronger steadily!"
Lili's heart couldn't help but beat louder.
She's truly fallen over to the other side.
It's not like Jackal agrees with everything. In fact, they have had a few arguments, both drunken and sober ones, but that never became a problem for them at the end of the day.
Yet, this world is large. Orario itself is very big. Many events take place in a single day. Jackal and Lili entering a new phase of their life is just one such chapter of the city.

A swift stab of her sword leaves the scaled monster moaning in pain before it disintegrates with one last roar. Gracefully flicking off the blood from her sword with a wave of her sword, she sheathes it with a soft sigh and turns around to regroup with her team.
'Ais-san...' Lefiya looks at Ais with a worried gaze. It's only been a few days since they delved into the dungeon. Their expeditions last for half a month usually so seeing her this tired brings Lefiya a wave of confusion.
'Why is she sad?' Always looking up to the swordswoman, Lefiya wishes she could do something to cheer her up. As Ais returns, Lefiya hears a soft sigh from the blonde human.
"I lack... discipline..."
Before Lefiya can say anything, their resident cheerful Amazoness leaps into Ais and hug her from behind, "Don't keep on crying over spilled milk, Ais~! So what if you ate all of it in a single setting?" The brown-skinned bundle of murderous excitement giggles as Ais's gaze grows even blanker.
"I have... failed my promise..." She musters in a tone so formal and quiet that Tiona and Lefiya look at each other awkwardly.
"What are the three of you upto now?" A certain green-haired elf walks to them with a calm expression as Tiona yelps, "Ah, Mother Sweetness—"
Riveria's staff slightly chops on top of the Amazoness' head as she giggles and sticks her tongue out before explaining the situation.
Exhaling a sigh, Riveria shakes her head, "If that's what you're worrying for... I suppose it is fine."
The elf shocks the trio slightly and turns away.
The expedition will only be resting for a few minutes before they start their travel once again so Riveria makes her way toward the spot held by Finn and Gareth as they talked amongst themselves.
Seeing her arrival, Finn perks up, "Did you find out?"
Riveria shakes her head with a slightly exhausted smile, "It's not anything we were worried for... she is sad she couldn't ration the bento she received as a parting gift before we entered the dungeon."
Finn chuckles under his breath while Gareth affords no such subtlety and laughs out loud, "We can say the boy has talent in cooking. But I don't get it... I snuck a bite out of Tiona's box. It was alright, I guess."
As if still angered and hurt, Tiona's head snaps in the dwarf's direction with her dark green pupils now revealing seething hatred as she snarls, "And I'll cut your beard for that! Just wait! One night, all your joy will turn to ashes and you'll know that our debt is settled!"
"Gahahahahahaha!" Gareth laughs even louder while Finn shrugs, "Maybe it's of something sentimental value. Tione shared some of it with me... might I add reluctantly. But I can see why it's valued. Others will try to shower Loki Familia's members with expensive gifts and other items but a home-cooked meal goes a long way."
"Captain!" Tione sobs upon hearing this before falling to her knees, "I failed you. In my desire to eat all of it and my love for you... I couldn't choose! I could only share the bento! Please! Punish me all night long~! Don't let up even once!" Her equally fervent dark green pupils lock on Finn as he sighs quietly, "It's fine, Tione. As I said, I understand the value it must hold for you."
"Hmm, then I should feel honored," Riveria smiles, "Lefiya did not feel all that concerned to share it with me. We both enjoyed it but I'll write a detailed review of what he can do better if he truly takes this duty seriously."
Gareth and Finn share a look while Riveria continues, "A few elven spices can bring his cooking to the next level."
"What about dwarven produces?" Gareth chuckles.
"Irrelevant. Nothing good comes out of charred nothingness."
"Hoho? Picking a fight again? I thought becoming Nine Hags reigned your temper."
Riveria's words also devolve into the uncouth territory.
"Please, there will be no fight. It will be my staff, a spell, and you regretting your existence, bearded savage. Or, I might just assist Tiona and as she shaves your beard, I'll do away with your hair."
Gareth takes a deep breath but he scoffs and then smirks while Riveria snorts and reveals a like-minded smirk.
Bete looks at them from a distance before scoffing under his breath and resting against a boulder.

"Ottar," a cool and collected voice with an undeniable charm and sultriness spread within one of the top rooms of Babel as a tall, muscular dark-skinned man with rust-brown irides quietly steps forward. The man is known as one title within Orario— King.
The strongest adventurer— Ottar.
His boar ears twitch and he questions quietly, "Yes, Lady Freya?"
"What do you think of Istar and Aphrodite?" The silver-haired woman taking the stock of Orario from the top of the tower swivels the wine in her glass and questions.
"Nothing, Lady Freya. They hold no space in my mind or my heart," Ottar responds naturally with a calm look. His words are laced with nothing but the truth. And unlike the many, many members of the Familia, his words are not saturated with over-the-top reverence. He is one man in the familia who cannot act like that for the sake of the familia and his Goddess.
"I see..." Freya whispers.
"Ah, this reminds me. I felt some vermin stalking my Odr's dear little helper. Don't harm them should they only target my Odr and Liliruca Arde. My dear is capable enough to handle the consequences of his actions, or at the very least, accept them. But..."
Her pupils flicker with annoyance, "If these vermins try to harm Maria, the children, or the orphanage in any capacity. Break them. They will be left alive for their familia but they don't need to enjoy the luxuries of life any longer."
Ottar turns around, "I'll have that done, Lady Freya."
"Oh, and Ottar?" Freya calls out with a smile.
"Yes?"
"Terminate all my appointments henceforth and if there are any offenders who think better than my wishes, burn them... figuratively, of course. And while I have you here, send a message that I won't be disturbed the entire night and my floor is not to be visited by anyone for any reason."
Ottar nods dutifully and leaves.
Exhaling a faint sigh, Freya climbs out of her chair and looks at the city once again.
The light from the city fails to reach this high but her skin remains as fair and supple in the darkness as it would glow under sunlight. Her silver eyes possess a charm beyond the capabilities of foxy and catty women. Her body is the definition of perfection. Nothing seems out of place for her. Her full breasts and wide hips are covered by a midnight dress with leaf-like edges lined with crimson-pink shade. The strapless and formfitting dress hangs from her breasts as it barely contains them.

Yet, a heated sigh escapes her lips as she recalls yesterday's events. Setting her glass aside, Freya walks out of the room and makes her way to the familiar dark hall dressed in a faint pink glow that tends to stir the desire of many.
Instead of going to the much filthier room that no longer serves her any purpose, she makes her way to her actual bedroom.
A place of rest that has never been marked by her desires. Her sanctuary of peace that she had wanted to keep as such until... a special occasion.
'Hahahaha! That's all you got? I won't escape you say?' His loud claims as he spilled his blood. His boisterous laugh as he cleaved through his enemy. And the fiery glint of passion in his eyes as he claimed—

From patrol to keeping a line of defense in the city and vetting anyone that enters it for the Guild, and formulating many reports are just a few of the duties that Ganesha Familia performs.
Dubbed the God for Masses, Ganesha Familia is the largest familia when it comes to numbers and is respected as such. But, that's not all. Unlike many Gods and Goddesses, Ganesha steps to perform the same duties he expects his children to perform. One such duty finds him alongside his captain at the northern gates of Orario, filling out form after form and accepting immigrants while noting down any suspicious individual.
"I AM GANESHA!"
In the dead of the night when the travelers and the workers are tired, the voice booms boisterously while Shakti, sitting beside her familia's God nods calmly, not the least bit affected by his nature or actions.
The said God, Ganesha, is muscular and dark-skinned. His long and shaggy ash-brown hair reaches the nape of his neck and is well-known to be somewhat showy. A thick golden chain decorates his neck and similarly, thick bracers adorn his wrists. A yellow-red elephant mask covers the top half of his face as he continues to greet the immigrants while Shakti notes down their names, places of birth, the reason for the visit, and many other things.
"Shakti! You need to rest!" Ganesha claims loudly, "Leave all this to me!"
"I would rather not leave your side amongst unknown immigrants," Shakti replies calmly, a yawn escapes her lips as she covers her mouth and then grumbles, "I'll be fine till our shift ends."
But by now Ganesha is already upon more exciting prospects.
"Hoh? Welcome to Orario. It's our first time meeting in both realms, isn't that right, Takemikazuchi... dono?"
The man leading a group of six teens smiles. His dark hair is worn in an ancient manner stemming from the far eastern lands. His clothes befit a farmer rather than a God. But he stands out among the masses, even when compared to Ganesha. His features are sharp and masculine. But his smile can make many of the kinder gods a run for their money.
"Please, no honorifics," Takemikazuchi laughs and cups his fist in a sign of respect, a gesture that Ganesha follows, "And yes, well met Ganesha. Your familia's name resounds in the Far East alongside many other familias from Orario. These are my children. We would like to settle in Orario."
Ganesha nods without any qualms. Shakti, meanwhile, glances at the six. Three boys and three girls. Each of them garbed in clothes of a different culture to Orario but all six of them look positively tired.
Ganesha eases them into the process, for which, the other god is thankful and after understanding the general layout of the city and getting a good recommendation from Ganesha about where they can find their lodgings, the budding familia enters the city.
As they leave, Shakti looks at Ganesha inquisitively, "Takemikazuchi... is rumored to be the God of War, right? He seems so different from the likes of Rakia."
Ganesha chuckles at that, "Gods preside over many authorities. War is a minor one for Takemikazuchi. You can consider him more of a combatant than anything else... but it's true. Most gods revered for their violent achievements since time immemorial are usually the kindest of the divinity you shall meet... or the goofiest."
Both of them think of a particular God of War and sigh collectively.
"I AM GANESHA!" the god impulsively shouts to heaven out of nowhere before making Shakti sigh again.
Her thoughts, meanwhile, linger on Takemikazuchi, 'Another God... like Miach. And they both seem in financial distress, too. Well, Miach was until recently. But... it's about time some competition rises for Dian Cecht's familia. Although his quality is only effective for rank 1 and only richer rank 1 adventurers can purchase his goods... he is making steady progress. In strength, too...'
Thinking of the pallum girl that she investigated and how Jackal just openly did what he liked, she scowls for a moment. But... she is also forced to recall another girl. Just as earnest and eager as him.
'She would have gotten along with someone like Jackal...' Shakti sighs softly. Memories of the past are buried just as quickly but never forgotten. To forget them will be an insult to their courage and sacrifice.

Naaza quietly picks up a bowl of ground materials. When it comes to health and mind potions, the Miach Familia possesses 3 recipes that can produce high-quality products. Other recipes do save on the cost but they also skirt the quality then.
Long hours are needed to produce a large number of potions and that, too, with an intense focus to mix everything in a precise manner. This lifestyle of hers eventually gave her the gift of a perpetually bored expression. A dazed look that seems to invoke a certain desire in many men which she unabashedly uses to sell her products... and his.
'He makes way more potions. He cooks. He's on a discipline that leaves nothing for personal entertainment! Why doesn't he look the slightest bit more like me?' She sighs in her heart.
'No, instead he is putting on weight, muscle mass to be exact. His musk feels more pleasant by the day. And he seems full of energy at all times... that's just unfair...'
She notes the weight of the powder in a glass dish and adds it to a tube of liquid. The addition of the powder quickly creates a reaction that turns the slightly cyan liquid into a blue one.
'Huff... complete...'
'Although his actions suggest that the creation of his work is more dependent on a skill of rare nature...' Naaza thinks of the youth again with a tired sigh, 'I am more doubtful about his... nature. He used to be so quiet... even when Orario faced one of the worst disasters ever, he didn't cry. He wasn't an advisor then... but I recall seeing him once. Climbing out of the ruins... without an ounce of emotion.'
'It almost feels like he is compensating for all the times he could have smiled,' she walks toward the tray which holds other potions and sets her latest creation down.
Her ponderous expression soon turns into a slight smile.
'Miach is also feeling less and less burdened by the day, allowing him to act charitable as much as he likes. The only thing that is left is our debt...'
She almost collapses once she imagines the number. Until now, the Miach familia has not even gotten close to repaying the principal amount. They've only been returning the interest amount...
'Damn...' she takes a seat on a nearby chair, '180 Million Valis... That's too much...'
But she is determined to pay it all back herself. If it wasn't for Miach, she wouldn't have an inorganic right hand that works like an actual one. And she has to admit... she is equally grateful to Miach for this.
'But... despite the expense, this arm is one of its nature. That woman even went ahead and crafted each nerve ending through Mythril to let my mind control my arm as my actual arm would move...' Naaza looks at her gloved right arm.
And there is one last thing.
'I am feeling a lot more distracted lately... it is taking me a minute longer than usual to mix the regular potions. I can't hope to create my new work if I keep on acting like this...'
Even now, she feels her thoughts are in a jumble. It's as if her mind is stirred.
Before, while she kept Miach's kindness in her mind and worked tirelessly, she never felt THIS anxious to grow out of their situation. She never felt THIS anxious at her own true weakness that has wrought her mind for years now. A weakness that kept her from a life of an adventurer.
'Our situation would have been far simpler... if I still used to prowl the dungeon.'
But the moment she thinks of this, her ears press into her skull, a shiver tingles down her spine and her furry tail stiffens in shock. Phantom pain marks her body once again. Cruel memories of horrendous, monstrous events make her want to scream as she can see and feel 'red' as if experiencing it all again!
"Ugh!" She holds her head and groans, barely stopping herself from falling off the chair.
And soon, the pain passes.
But she remembers it, drenched in a cold sweat.
'I am weak... not worthy of Miach and Jackal's kindness...'

Jackal continues to sing with all his passion, using one of the smaller axes as a microphone while keeping an eye out for Lili who is facing four goblins with a spear.
"Ugh, Jackal-sama! Lili can't focus!" She is pushed back by the clawing goblins as Jackal throws his ax toward the fifth one who tried to sneak past her.
"That's why this is training, Lili~ Focus! Adapt! And Grow! You're doing surprisingly well for a noob with a spear, better than I did with an ax so keep on going! I believe in you!" Jackal cheers her on.
'M- M- MOTIVATION UNLIMITED!' Lili squeaks in her mind as she hears her master's confession... She grows aggressive ever so slightly as her spear begins to show slight improvement once again.
'Hmm, she should try other weapons like a naginata or other pole weapons.'
Jackal chuckles internally, more than happy that he picked a talented warrior in a cute disguise.
'I shall be Jackal-sama's crossbow and spear! Fear me for I shall never stop from this day onwards!' Lili swears in her heart. If Jackal is this accommodating in helping her get stronger, she does not want to waste his efforts in any form or manner...

that's a perfectly fine opinion, I guess? I didn't like her all that much in the anime either but hey, I think I may pull it off

This story has an interesting concept added to it. I like the Shop aspect and growth aspect of the character. I am liking what you are doing with Freya. One negative i found was most of lil's sections. I just glossed over basically everything except for the starting parts. (Basically, any core part that focused on her for a long duration) I found i did not care at all about her so there were some chapters that i glossed over like half of the chapter. My opinion. "Shrugs" everyone is not going to like a character. I guess lily is not likeable for me.
