Is anyone else here so stoked by this episode with Nikki & Steven after voting for Ted Lasso for so long because you knew they would adore the show? I was unsure after episode 1 with Nikki but I forgot how much episode 3 and on ropes you in.

You're right, Steve. Premier League is the top league (also the strongest league in the world), the bottom 3 teams get relegated to the Championship (confusing name for the 2nd league, I know) and 3 teams get promoted from the Championship. Also, yes, Captain is a huge honor in football and important role. Captains are supposed to be the only ones the referees talk to when explaining a call they made or whatever else. Roy is the vet captain and Jamie is the young star.

Relegation is basically getting demoted to a lower tier league. At the end of every season, the teams that finish at the bottom of each league get bumped down to the next lower league, and the teams in the lower leagues that finish on top get promoted to the next higher league. There are multiple levels, so you can get relegated down one tier at the end of one season and then get relegated again to an even lower league the next season if you perform poorly. The Premier League is obviously the top tier, and there are 20 teams in the league, with three relegations every season. The EFL Championship League is the next tier down, and the three best teams in that league get promoted up to the Premier League at the end of each season to replace the three Premier League teams that just got relegated. We don't really have anything like that here, but it would be like if the Major League Baseball teams that did the worst each season got bumped down to Triple A minor league the next season, with the best Triple A teams getting moved up into the major league.

this is the episode that wins over most people. Roy is seen as a grouch and Trent an antagonist. Its revealed here that both are very good people, in tough jobs that require them to hide behind their brand of professionalism.
