I would change one of the listed niche cards „ fluency in a language Arthur had never heard of“ because you already mentioned this card back in a town with the caravan.

Sarah Grfghlt

I could imagine that the scholars do it on purpose and that they don‘t like the card system at all. They are kind of scientist and the cards are magical nonsense kinda. Also they are celebrating now, why? Could it be because they let it successfully fester in a dragon, as they hate the hives and the dragons? Dunno we‘ll see :D

Undead Writer

Thanks for the chapter!!

So, this is really hard for me to reconcile. The more I've thought about it, the less sense it makes to me. (Came back to make this comment after reading to the end of what's available now.) How does it make sense for the Scholars to have let this happen? (i.e. how could they possibly be the heroes in their own story?) Right now, it feels like: People in power do stupid selfish things. That's fine, that's true, but how does this actually benefit them? It's not really selfish, it's just stupid. It would be like someone being hired as the President's doctor, then going on tour about how great they were for recieving the position so often that they never actually checked up on the President's health... The level of self-sabatoge even if there were deadly implications/impications for the fate of humanity, feels unrealisitc for anyone but a cartoon villan. All that said, it may just be me, and I'm still enjoying, so take this as you will. (Maybe add a reasonable reason, later? They were trying to study the type of scourgeling summoned, or something like that?)

Thanks for the chapter! Lol! Imagine what that mystical card left behind after it rotted? A host of scourge-touched dragons or something?

Honour Rae

Yup! Traveling just turned out to be more of a slog than I anticipated. But I return with a (good?) chapter!

Timothy Alexander

You okay?

Corpse Garden

Not including the implications of starting up a scourgling spawning ground in the midst of your competitors home. Especially when you're guild has already F'ed up majorly in a fairly recent time frame? And on top of the fact that eruptions are reaching a new hight with less and less soldiers to combat it? I think their guild is about to get cleared out...

Corpse Garden

Doubtful, anything of legendary grade would have been guzzled up by these guys already more than likely. Not impossible but definitely too early since his second card was aquired.

Duhall

Anyone thinking Arthur might find the special card in his set in this library? It’s niche enough that the scholars probably wouldn’t take it for themselves and would make sense for him to find it here, even if it would be a little bit early.

Bob

Might be auto-spawn. Let enough cards rot in an enclosed space, you get scouragelings. I have Warhammer priests screaming in my head at the end "Purge the Heretics! Purge them all!" Cards aren't consumables, and this group's only job is to store and prevent their nobility's primary currency from rotting. So, imagine 7 legendary and 50 rares going poof. It undermines the nobility's own justifications for their way of life, to themselves. That's how you get division within a political group.

Wheelwright Pony

My biggest worry would be about not the released scourge in there, but the cards the released scourge _ate_ in there. Remember they tend to eat cards to become more powerful as well.

Deathly_God

Thanks for the Chapter! If Cori were still alive, she'd never have let this happen. Justice for Cori!!

Deathly_God

As someone who always grew up in Academic circles (both parents are professors), I think it mostly comes down to pride and arrogance, just like other ruling classes. For Kings and the wealthy, pride comes from their position and successes. Academics that go bad are the least likely people to listen to anyone. Worse, they're self-assured by their own intelligence in whatever field they're in, and arguing them out of a stance requires just as in-depth knowledge as they have, if not more. And that's if they even listen..... I agree, I like the villains coming from different sections of the societies power structure. I hope this is a bad campus though, and not through the entire academic circle.

Aloysius

Could also be dead legendary dragons that got lost ages ago. Now they're dealing with all the mess

Barkeep

So higher teir cards create/summon scrouglings as they rot then? Or did the scholars hold scourglings behind the door for experiments or maybe even to release as some attack at a later date? If it's the 1st. Then I'm interested in what other ways are there to make cards other then dragon births. Would legendary cards create the eruptions and unclaimed ones be the cause for the ones we have seen? Or could their be some individual or organization that planted legendary cards across the land for them to slowly corrode years ago?

Nathan Sto

Yeah, I agree. The amount of death caused by well educated marxists trying to create their personal utopia is nearly incomprehensible. When intellects go bad indeed.

Julien Fellegara

How is this even possibke. That's wanted, for sur.

Aaron Weingrad

I’m hoping that the scholars are about to get massacred. IRL Intellectuals, when they go bad, are worse than aristocrats, merchants or other elites. Even the worthwhile thinkers are more often than one would imagine absolute trash as individuals. Rousseau was a pig abandoning his kids. Marx was a racist hateful leech. Geniuses but vile. It is refreshing to have villains in this story come from a different section of the ruling class.

Victor

Wow! Not only are the scholars lazy and pompous, but they are also so wasteful! They do deserve severe punishment for their actions! I bet Cressida and Arthur will have to destroy them scourglings in order to retrieve the cards they consumed, still very intense chapter, hopefully next chapter will come out soon!
