Highlights included a fairly promising Zelda clone, and a visual reminder that Ubisoft really doesn't care about Prince of Persia. But for many, myself included, the big announcement was that "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World : The Game" is coming back.
And it's a rare case of context when I say this game is coming back. As unlike most cases of an old game "coming back," the Scott Pilgrim game actually left in the first place. The game was only ever released digitally, and when the license expired in 2014, Ubisoft didn't renew it. So poof, the game was pulled from online storefronts and made impossible to play legally if you hadn't already bought it. Or even if you had, if your PS3 just so happened to brick out on you like mine did, you were equally screwed. Over the years I've frequently used this story as an example of why the all-digital entertainment future we're headed for totally blows big time.
Anyhow: Scott Pilgrim! Pictured above is my take on Ramona Flowers, classic manic pixie dream girl from the series. The story of a narcissistic young Canadian having to battle his girlfriend's seven evil exes is told across three major mediums: comic, movie, and video game.
Personally, I could never get into the original comics. I found Scott himself too selfish and hard to sympathize with. Admittedly, that was ten years ago. I might have a new perspective if I picked up one of the books now. I found Micheal Cera's take on Scott in the movie much more likable, and the movie itself I think is still funny and holds up well. (It also has Captain America and Captian Marvel in it for crying out loud.) But for me the apex of the Scott Pilgrim media empire will always be the game. With it's gorgeous pixel art and killer chip tune soundtrack, it's a blast to play through. I'm thrilled to have a chance to play it again after all this time, it's just....it's just I can't help but notice none of the marketing has mentioned anything about the game getting a physical release. It...it IS getting a physical release, right? Ha ha! I mean, it would just be a bad joke if it was only digital again....and then they pulled it when the license expired again. Right? Hello? Why is Ubisoft being so quiet over there!?
Are you with me on this or am I making too much out of nothing? Are you familiar with the series? Should I give the comics another chance? Let me know as always! :D

I love Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim so SO much! You should have drawn a squiggle drawing of a girl that looks like this; I would have recognized Ramona Flowers easier, haha.

I liked her ok, but I've always had a soft spot for Mary Elizabeth there. I think she's one of the best actresses that just can NOT catch a break. Every time she stars in a big movie that should be a blockbuster, it totally bombs, or becomes a cult classic at best.

I thought Ubisoft was scummy just from their business practices before I ever even heard about them mistreating their employees. As for Brie Larson, I know it was a small role, but I loved her as Envy. Super hot and had some great line delivery. :D

I’m glad it’s getting a rerelease but with all the sexual harassment that’s been going on at Ubisoft it almost feels like they’re trying to gain back public support which feels icky to me.

Never saw the movie. Never read the comic. Played the game, though. Liked it. Very 80s throwback. Digital-only sucks. The blue-haired chick is hot. One day I will learn to compound sentences.

Never was crazy about the live action casting for Ramona Flowers. She was supposed to be this beautiful woman who took the guy’s breath away but when I looked at her I thought, “eh, I’ve seen way way way way way hotter.”

Weird. I've never had trouble re-downloading the game on the PS3 when I've swapped systems or done a factory restore. Nice to see it coming back though.

The game was awesome, but I never could get it since I didn't have consoles at the time (played it at a friend's place tho). And even if they pull a licensing switcheroo again, and there's no physical release, it's coming out on PC, which means it'll be cracked, which means it'll be archived and available for pretty much ever.
I have nothing against Scott Pilgrim but I couldn’t get into. My only experience is with the movie and it’s just too much. It’s an example of style over substance. Yeah it’s flashy and all but nothing to really make me care. Sorry if I’m shitting all over it.

I have a complicated relationship with the series and the movie. I think there is some good there. And I also love the side scroller, and hate that Ubisoft made it. But I won't say no to Scott Pilgrim smut. Do Kim next.
