I'm leaning towards the idea that after Abbey's father died, they were poor and struggled until Paige's career took off. Paige wouldn't want Abbey to ever want for anything again, the way I see it.

As of this day 4 Milfs have made appearances in the Reinverse; Sylvia(Casey) Raina(Chloe) Luka(Eliana) and now Paige(Abby). I wonder whos mom we’ll see next? Bria? Liz? Morgan? Jane? Lydia? Her way of looking at it is def insensitive/old fashioned but that's ok; the views of the character don't reflect those of the author after all and it seems like her being set in her ways is going to be a point of conflict in the story. I do wanna know why her husband was fighting a hippo though lmao

I think the hippo punching (which made me lol for real) explains a lot more about Paige's frame of mind than anything. If she was attracted to a man deluded enough to think punching a hippo would end any other way... well, that says a lot. Abbey is possibly better off?

That's a pretty old fashioned take, but I can see where it might be internally consistent. It doesn't seem like Paige and Abbey are doing badly for themselves... but maybe the dead dad had good life insurance. Sure makes one think about how a dead dad affected Abbey.
