🕑 Added 2021-07-16 05:06:44 +0000 UTCI took an online class in cartoon character design once, and all the knowledge I retain from it just screams that Chloe's look is way off from what it should be. Cartooning preaches to make sure a character's design also showcases their personality. So if I were to make a young lady who was, say, a creepy, mouth-breathing, perverted voyeur, cartooning dictates that she should be be a gaunt figure with dark circles under her eyes and stringy, unwashed hair.
Putting aside the fact that due to the nature of my comics, traditionally unattractive characters aren't a smart move, part of me does like that Chloe's dainty, girly exterior belies the fact that she'd be in prison by now if she was a middle-aged man and not a sexy young woman. But I don't know, maybe if I reboot TRW twenty years from now, I'll try something different with her design. XD

i vote for a non-canon short story offshoot where both Millie and Chloe become enthralled by the hot nurse, dressing up in sexy nurse outfits of their own and performing very similarly (with their own personality), infecting others with some sort of outrageously horny virus! note: the virus makes <i>the people it infects</i> outrageously horny- the virus itself isn't outrageously horny. then again, maybe it is? maybe that's how it infects everyone so quickly?

I would think the sort of thing that cartooning advice is supposed to communicate would be done through expressions. She's clearly hot, but what she'd need is a hentai grade "raging pervert expression". But that last panel is pretty close already!

I didn’t appreciate Chloe enough when she was only a visual novel character but now that she’s in the comic and we get to see her from all these different angles, she’s moved towards the top of my ‘favorite girl’ list. I need to see her in some boy/girl action ASAP. Is she currently sexually active with any guys other than Isaac?

I think a classic-Disney-style approach to characterisation where physical attractiveness lines up with a character's morality works for certain types of stories, but it doesn't always line up that way in the real world. People often act surprised when people who look attractive/are popular have a dark side. If anything, I feel it just makes Chloe smokin' hot though.

There's also something to be said about a design set up for the purpose of Subversion. As you noted, Chloe's major design is Cutesy Girly Girl, which leads to entertaining contrast with her Creepy Voyeur Kink. Plus, as another poster noted, advice like that is more what you call guidelines than laws. When you know the basics and the foundational advice you can play around and adjust them for your purposes.

Honestly, it's sometimes good to see a character who isn't a stereotype. If Chloe was a thin, goth, creeper she'd be the same as every other voyer we've seen on TV or in a comic. Its interesting that she's a fashionable cutie that longs for attention on top of a creepy voyer. It makes her character unique. Also, oh shit, what has the nurse started doing to millie?

That sounds like the sort of lesson that is good advice, but ultimately shouldn't be seen as law. When one artist's rule becomes another dozen artists' dogma, it officially stops being very useful. It's like all of the young writers who live in fear of adjectives because Steven King grumpily says they're bad in 'On Writing'. This is all a tortured way of saying that Chloe is great, and the fact that her outward appearances don't immediately tell you everything about her just means you've moved on to more nuanced storytelling.
