In one of the early drafts for this scene, Carla was going to dangle Dan from one of the windows but that changed after the bell tower design was refined.

Man, she smashed that jar of jam right good, that's like four whole dollars wasted. Awful shame. Also I love her expression, she looks alert and just very mildly surprised, like she didn't expect him to turn around just then while she was concentrating on where exactly to hit him. It gives the whole thing an element of added shock from his perspective since it seems important, but not like, challenging or super out of the ordinary for her. It's the sort of face you make when positioning something carefully, not when committing a murder. Lots going on in that third panel.
