I know the angels don't know much about what Dan is, but why do they think he poses a threat? And isn't Carla suspicious about Es handing him over after defending him? Or is she just not that bright?

I can think of no better way to ignite a spark in someone, to help them discover some inner power of some sort or another, then to throw them into the flame and make them think they have no more allies or escapes. Of course, this thought is assuming Esther isn't some scary evil demon or something.

This is extra sad knowing that Dan has low self-worth, and seems to have distanced himself from anyone else who might be concerned for him...then again, he never actually considered what she felt about helping him. Could be reaching here, but I feel like that kind of inadvertent self-absorption might be common in people with depression; you're less likely to think about the mindsets of other people when you're mentally and emotionally exhausted all the time.
