They were betrothed and would have been married when Charlotte was done with university but she called off the wedding after her brother died. Peter still expects to marry her after she's done with whatever business she's in right now. He wouldn't have predicted Charlotte to fall in love with some lower class pleb ๐ His family is even higher society than Charlotte's. Peter also has a younger sister who's close friends with Charlotte too and will be introduced a little later.
