Tara giggled and swatted me. “Bonnie still won't believe you figured that out on your own, you know?”
Kim opened her mouth, looking outraged on both hers and my own behalf. “She can't-”
“Calm, KP. Calm.” I soothed, pushing my food aside and pulling her to me across the bed we were casually using as a stand-in for a couch. Settling her in my lap, I felt the tension release from her as I wrapped her in a hug. “It's just how Bonnie is. Always looking for the angles, trying to get a lever. I think that's why you two butt heads so much, given how straightforward and honest you are.”
Tara's eyes widened as she considered that, moving over to put her head in Kim's lap as she set her own food aside as well. Looking up at the redhead with a smile, she grinned. “I never thought about it like that, but it makes so much sense. You and Bonnie are like, exact opposites.”

I decided, tactfully, not to bring up the WMD in Bonnie's arsenal, especially since it was a mutually-assured-destruction variant. Which was a fear that said more about Bonnie than Kim, considering my partner's personality.
Add to that the fact that I believe Bonnie at least suspected something about Kim, Tara, and myself and it meant that, for the first time since jr high and Kim getting on the cheer squad, Tara could relax. Knowing that she could retaliate against Kim, if needed, meant that Kim wasn't an active threat to her position, even if Kim was objectively better than her by most metrics.
Well, no. Especially if Kim was objectively better than her.
That kind of thing would drive any Type A Queen Bee personality into overdrive.
