Yeah so Rank is just the "difficulty" of the Rift. Most commonly, this will apply to levels but can also come in other ways: - Some Rifts have no monsters and there isn't a Cull Quest, instead it might be a maze or puzzle Rift, and the difficulty of said puzzle or maze scales with the Rank. - Some Rifts might be "swarm type" Rifts where the difficulty comes from the sheer number of monsters with in, something like that might have a higher Rank by the System, even if the monsters within are lower leveled.

Me, too. I enjoyed writing the chapters where Alex returns home, especially the part about reuniting with friends. I'm looking forward to you guys getting there soon!

Thanks for the feedback! I enjoyed writing Eura's little speech there and imaging his powers!

OverXelous

It got replaced by his Rift Quest to "Survive" when he accepted the hidden quest.

Beeees!

Oooh I enjoyed this rift ark and how he was able to power boost up with fortuitous encounters and a good old training montage. But boi am I excited for him to go back and for him to suddenly be a much bigger player in the super-powered world

Beeees!

I think that changed once he released Eura, maybe I'm not sure

Didn’t Alex have a mission to find the spy? Is that not a thing anymore?

Great chapter. I love the brief display of Eura's power and the further depth to Sam and Alex's dynamic

Corwin

That might be good to clarify when they get back. Though curious that Rank doesn't play a factor at all. I would think that rank and rarity would both play a part

OverXelous

Ahh, I see. Yes, time dilation has to do with Rarity, though, not Rank. When accepting the hidden quest, the thing that changed was the Rank from E > D. The Rarity stayed the same at Epic. So time flow didn't change at all. It's been the same. What changed is the strength of those within the Rift. So Sam likely entered the Rift (Epic E Rank Rift levels 1-30) in October Alex entered the Rift (Epic E Rank Rift levels 1-30) on December 12th Alex accepted the hidden quest, and the Rift changed from Epic E Rank to Epic D Rank, meaning monsters (or, in this case, the sect members) go from 30-60) I hope that makes sense! If it's over complicated I might think of adding a clarifying conversation or bit of internal monologue from Alex during his time with the Mana Spinners.

Corwin

Sam has been there for over a year but less than two. But the Rift tiered up while Alex was inside almost immediately. Time wise they shouldn't have that big of a gap. Since time accelerated at the same time. Sam should have more time in but the rise in rank and rarity with the large increase in time dilation happened with them both being inside together

OverXelous

Hmm, no, that's not the intention. Which part of the chapter is making you think that? I might need to touch it up. Sam has been stuck in there for over a year, which should reveal in a way that he was likely one of the first people to enter a Rift (with 8x dilation, he'd have been in there for almost two months). Alex has been in the Rift for just over 50 days on this chapter, so just under a week in real-time.

Corwin

Interesting. Are you saying Alex has been gone for a few months in real time?

OverXelous

Thanks for pointing that out! When I outline a chapter, it's often in the present tense. So when I write the prose and I'm reading my outline, my brain trips up a bit!

Elinar Godly

Hey, towards the end there is paragraph that is in present tense: "Alex is surprised that when the planning session is wrapping up, Eura stresses the fact that Alex is being placed in charge of the first team. The sect head made sure to receive verbal confirmation from each of the four other members that they were willing to take orders from an outsider." I too make my initial writing in present tense, so I get how it could slip between the cracks.
