This is fair feedback. I'm not sure if you took a look at my responses to the other comments, but this chapter will likely receive a hefty rewrite. Alex and Rylan still won't get into a fight here, even in a rework, but I might have them get closer to coming to blows and drop some of her inner monologues in favor of their conversation. While it might not come to blows, I want to make sure readers understand that Rylan was humiliated in this interaction. Not so blatantly that everyone in the room would know it, but definitely those who were paying attention.

Cool chapter, always nice to see our mc grow more condident as his power improves. Also, did I just caught up the 20 chapters in an evening? Yes, yes I did.

Gotta be honest that felt like a bit of a bait and switch. All the buildup to Rylan getting some comeuppance then the whole confrontation happened through the perspective of his Karen friend and was mostly ignored in favor of her inner monologue about how she still can’t believe the protagonist changed from a profoundly life altering experience. I guess if anything it does illustrate why mental health professionals aren’t supposed to work on people they’re close to because the skills mostly boil down to training to be an objective observer and no one can do that with their friends and family. This character doesn’t seem to have learned that lesson in her training though as she’s seemingly set herself up as her friend group’s psychologist/moralist.

Haha, I love to see it, Rip; thank you for the kind words. This chapter is on the shorter side, so maybe cutting stuff isn't the best answer. Maybe I'll just break up some of the analysis with some more physical action or movement through other players in the scene. I'm also interested in auras, and specifically, I love where Sarah is heading in her development and powers.

V L

What a mood. I have a friend who’s editing a book and I’m like ‘keep every word’ but noooo we gotta cut cut cut. 😂

Ron

Everyone has their opinion, but I liked this chapter. I actually thought it was too short. If you are going to rewrite it, add some more of Sarah's stats.

Ron

I am curious about all of Mark and Sarah's skills. Maybe a bit more of a peek inside of their stats. What level is Sarah's skill, what does she do to increase its level? It looks like the System is infinite in variability and adapts based on each person.

Ron

and it would ungulate along with happy laughter. His didn’t do that at all. **undulate**

Hey I get to be the ray of sunshine for once. :D I loved the chapter. My favorite in some time I'd say. I think it'd be a shame if anything was cut, but I do always want more, unless it's something tough to get through. I appreciate the details though, I think the more the better with your writing, let people know where you and the characters are coming from. I think the encounter and everyone in it is very realistic and nothing is too much. It was slightly jarring as it shifted around the timeline but it was fine imo. It was wholesome and enjoyable. I was expecting a fight, or a duel, and that's how 95% of these types of stories would have handled it. I was looking forward to that, but this is more mature, and you write this type of thing well. Edit: I forgot to say, I'm interested in the auras now. I like that. More interested in them than other magic so far just from this tbh. I guess it's that they seem more grounded and something we can understand.

Rip Woodham

Yikes.

How incredibly out of touch lol the fact that this chapter might not have been to your liking is fine but don't come on here and spew that stupid shit. The genuine parallels to reality are huge here.

Thanks for the chapter! Really enjoyed seeing Alex from one of his friends perspective as it really sets in stone the effects the rift had on him and also shows off how his unique trait is changing him. I somewhat agree with V L that the psychiatrist lingo could be toned down a tiny bit but overall I really liked it as like you said it did show off Sarah's more analytical side which hasn't had a chance to be shown yet. And I have no idea what Plasmatic is saying you made it very clear before and now that Sarah and Alex are no more and it wouldn't restart just because Alex got more hot/confident. Even if it does cause some mixed feelings from Sarah. And yes it is totally understandable that she is just being happy for her friend and then misinterpreted that feeling as something more for a moment.

Beeees!

I really appreciated the change in perspective for this one. Really interested to see how auras will interact with magic and skills down the line. Also Sarah's feeling make a lot of sense. That hot mix of ex comes back hotter and more confident than ever but also understanding that it wont work out. Felt very real

V L

Last last thing: when I said “less is more with that guy” about Alex that was praise. Alex was concise and immovable. It was cool. You’ve got Rylan super angy and Alex is just like ‘yes?’ ‘Uh huh?’ ‘Ah, really?’ 😂

V L

Bro now I’m equally worried and excited about Rylan. Sounds like a villain… scare. 😳 Don’t tell me though. No spoilers. 🙈

V L

Lmao he seems less hulk smash and more confident no one can match up to him. The aura attack is pretty insidious. It’s just clear he’s strong in front of the weak and weak in front of the strong. Maybe he can look less hulk smash reactionary in the aura analysis after it’s withdrawn? Make his aura more cautious than whipped dog? 😂 But like a scared cautious idk. It’s your book I trust you.

OverXelous

I agree. I googled some of the phrases, and even her comments on Rylan are pushing it a bit for me. I wrote this back in September before sharing it with anyone, and was just excited to get close to having the story done, lol. I think that my notes on the outline for this chapter were like, "Show Sarah's analytical nature, observe Alex, auras, question feelings." A few months later, reading it, I certainly just took those things and sent them all a bit too far! Thanks for your feedback.

bad day? hope ur ok o.o

V L

Yeah this part: “Is it just a response to seeing him so changed? Is it a psychological phenomenon where sudden transformations trigger a reassessment of a previous relationship? That must be it.” Too much unnecessary jargon. Also the question format is a little forced. Personally I’d go with: “Could it be a response to his massive change? That type of situation where sudden transformation causes one to reassess their relationship.” Something like that? It’s not perfect but the “psychological phenomenon” language was too lofty for a simple concept, psychological or otherwise. Also doctors don’t talk like that. Jargon is usually used when it’s specific. “phenomenon” is not medically specific. And it comes across artificially.

OverXelous

Yeah, would love to hear what you think. This is one of those chapters where I will likely do a pretty hefty rewrite. I want her to be analytical and to lean into her work, but some of this is just over the top. Even someone who enjoys their work isn't likely going to use such technical jargon in their normal speech or thoughts. Yeah, like I said in the other comment- I'll likely cut her analysis of Alex in half and mostly have it be the clash of wills. In the other half of the chapter, I'll likely fill in with actual dialogue and add some sort of commotion. Rylan's character has come together a bit more as I'm writing Book 2, and I want him to seem a bit smarter there than just a brute. Still a bully, but a bit smarter than "hulk smash".

V L

Soooo ignoring PlasmaticPi’s overreaction…. I liked it! I will admit it was a bit long I did skim for a hot sec in the middle, though I didn’t notice or remember that until I read the above and your response and realized that yeah the chapter could be tightened up. *love* the clash of wills. Love Alex. He’s awesome. Less is more with that guy. Sarah’s analysis of her feelings seems a little *too* clinical. I’m no psychiatrist, though my mom is, but I am a woman. Brb I’ll go read it and then reply with what I mean.

OverXelous

Lol, I love waking up to this. Yes, this chapter probably needs a rework- but not as big as you're talking about. I'd probably only spend half the time actually analyzing Alex's changes. I don't want to smack the reader over the head with it. 1. "Cool power" - It's not supposed to be a cool power. It's an aura, someone's personality, and their will. We can only see it here because of Sarah's trait. The term "a clash of wills" is what's being represented, not anything more. Also, if you remember Rylan's most used ability, then you're getting to see a bit of how that works behind the scenes. 2. "Another female gaining a crush" - There's not another crush, and that's clearly stated. They have a history, dated for years, and have been really close friends. I don't see almost any male/female relationship where a past lover comes back this changed, insanely wealthy, etc... and there's not at least some questioning of feelings. You immediately cancelled your membership and I just got a 0.5 star rating on RR, I'm going to hope that's just a random coincidence. This seems like a pretty huge over reaction for reading early content? Especially when I'm very open to hearing feedback....

sigma

Nah, this was fun, having an external view of the aura clash was great and she makes sense as the person with an aura ability

PlasmaticPi

This needs to stop. In fact delete this. This was literally the most cringe inducing thing ever. Like look at my OC! Isn't my OC amazing?! Look at this cool power he has that hasn't been mentioned before and that makes 2 completely unrelated things seem the same despite it making no sense! And actual dialog of what is happening? Nah that's boring. Lets just make another female gain a crush on him instead! Seriously this was gag inducing.
