As the martial mater watched him practice **Master**

Ahh I see! Still, equally valuable feedback. If they were any kind of friends, that served as motivation for Sam to keep pushing himself into Mana Fatigue, I would definitely expect them to come up again at least once!!

Steven Reninga

Oh I assumed they were earthlings but honestly i don't know that you need to add an edit like that in to say he was the only one. My main point was that in Sam's POV the slave master threatens to not let sam see his "friends" the next day which is enough to motivate Sam into doing what he wants. Since then there has been no other mention of these "friends" as far as I know. It just seems odd to me that not going to see them the next day would be motivation enough to receive a worse beating but that they wouldn't matter enough for Sam to mention them agian. Now obviously these "friends" could be anything from other slaves to animals he heals to anything else I just wanted to make sure that wasn't a thread from his POV that never got mentioned again.

This is a great question! There are no teammates, Sam's backstory comes out in a chapter or two. BUT!!! This is why Patreon readers are so valuable, lol. I'm obviously writing all of this with Sam's entire backstory already in my head, so my view is a little different. I didn't even think about the obvious fact that readers / Alex would likely think that Sam had a team or others he entered with. I'll add this to my notes and figure out how to edit it in there. It might be a really small thing, like in the chapter where we are in Sam's POV: Alex could crouch down and ask Sam where the others are or if he had a team. Sam could just shake his head and say "Just me." Something along those lines where the reader won't know if there every was a team or if they all died. But at least that way it doesn't just feel like an open plot thread for several chapters until his backstory does come up some more. Thanks so much for the feedback. This sort of stuff is very helpful! Haha, and sorry for the long-winded response.

Enjoying the story so far. How long are we going to ignore Sam's "friends" which i assume are other earthling slaves? I get that he might have not brought it up immediately to Alex after he killed a man in front of him, but at this point surely he'd have felt the need to ask for help for them.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I noticed the chapter’s getting more engagement and you’re handling it like a champ. It’s refreshing to see how open you are to feedback, and I think you’re doing a fantastic job. Looking forward to reading more and sharing my thoughts along the way

Hey! I appreciate the feedback, and this is super fair! I'm not sure how to make the characters feel more real without devoting more page time to them and these are already almost all 3k+ so quite a bit longer than I want them to be, but there's just so much to show about Alex's training! Ahhh! Lol, so many challenges. The Eura stuff has a reason, and if you don't mind- I'd love to DM you in about five chapters and see how you're feeling about this. Or you could post it in a comment on that chapter if you remember it when reading. (Ch. 48) These things are both related to his personality and also with the world building about how Rifts work. Obviously, there's no way for readers to know that until it comes out in the chapter, so I'm struggling a bit with this serialized release format LOL I appreciate you taking the time to write out the comment and leave feedback, though. Even if it doesn't change, this stuff does help me grow and write better in the future! Thanks for reading along. It means a ton to me for you to support the Patreon as well.

I’ve really really really enjoyed your story so far, and the system and main character are a lot of fun. But considering how powerful Eura is, he’s a real pushover. I find it hard to accept him allocating this much time and being that easygoing about being disrespected by his juniors, especially from what is clearly a xianxia world where the strong eat the weak. He’s too tame considering all that he’s attained. The level up ark is fun but the way it’s happening is weirdly shallow, and the characters are a bit flat. With that said, I want to make clear that I’ve enjoyed your story so much that I’ve inhaled it in 2 days, so overall super positive

I'd disagree, keep this in mind (Its a good benchmark) but the handling of this montage is fine. We know the elders were annoying and entitled, we know cultivator mentality, we know they are unhappy. This was shown to us already. Things are fine, Alex isn't interacting with these people, the readers don't need worldbuilding for a world we're swiftly leaving.

OverXelous

I don't mind the paragraph or criticism, though the tone does come off as pretty rude. I'll start by saying I appreciate the feedback because I really do. This is part of the reason I put up the poll on Wednesday. It feels like people are seeing the same things I was feeling: - This arc is getting a bit long. - This is the second "training montage/arc" in his time in the Rift Ultimately, there's a month of dialogue and actions that could be shown and written a lot better here, but it's covered in 6~ chapters for the reasons above. So there's going to be a decent amount of summarizing and telling rather than showing. I'm not sure if this is the right move or the best way to do things, this is certainly not like anything I've written before. I tend to give myself more leeway to emphasize the purpose of things through Alex's thoughts because he's naturally a character in his head a lot more. But, based on your feedback, I can certainly see how some of these interactions are more like bonking the reader on the head rather than letting them see and understand through actions/reactions. I'm constantly improving and will likely be touching up all of these chapters (41-48) before they hit RR. How much, will depend on feedback and reading things again before the time comes. I usually want to avoid being defensive about my writing in comments because I feel like most criticism has something that I could take from it to learn how to be better. But I do find it hard when compared to an impatient high schooler... I'm not doing any of this to insult your intelligence or anything malicious. I'm just here writing my story. These chapters were written before I even began to post on Royal Road and I'd like to think I've improved further since the additional 40~ chapters I've written since this time.

Hey man. You're starting to develop a bad habit of being lazy when it comes to important things happening. If there is dialogue, let there be dialogue. Don't tell us directly what happens like an impatient highschooler that's been called on to read from the history book. Actually write it out and show us. You've done this several times now where you've cut corners either with the ritual date, the introduction of the elders (who somehow matters enough to have names but don't matter enough to have a sentence introducing them), and with the training montage. Rather then shoving in our faces the direct thing you want to convey allow people to interpret it. Show that Eura refuses to answer the elder until given the respect he is owed. Show that the there is protocol to be followed. 'Show don't tell' gets thrown around a lot but I prefer 'treat me with intelligence'. Sorry for the mega paragraph but mobile doesn't allow proper spacing.

Beeees!

Good depth and good progress all wrapped in one. Def makes sense the elders would be a lil miffed to start taking orders again
