ha, you overestimate my kids :D
Alexey Melnikov
There is a solution against "forget". You loose your progress couple times, and then you will never forget. Usually it works :)
Alexey Melnikov
All those thoughts are valid. Finally we came to a solution suitable for both parties ☺️
Dandi and Matija
Ah, I see your thoughts on this from before: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/issues/789 Thanks again for putting in the no-delay though!
Dandi and Matija
One more thought in support of auto-saving: kids will forget to open the OSD before turning off the system or changing games/cores. If the concern is writing at moment of reset/poweroff, the risk is no greater than it was with the original consoles, is it?
Dandi and Matija
Yay, that's excellent, I appreciate it.
Alexey Melnikov
I've added it already. You can test it in next nightly/unstable build.
Dandi and Matija
That would be great!! I think allowing menu to close before the delay runs out would be a notable ux improvement. thank you
Alexey Melnikov
basically Menu button is the shortcut to save. What is the problem to quickly open/close OSD? I think i can make OSD to get closed if Menu button is pressed before delay run out.
Dandi and Matija
Any chance of getting a button/shortcut to write saves to SD without opening the OSD?
Alexey Melnikov
Yes, delay is artificial. In latest Main release delay is shorter.
Dandi and Matija
When opening the OSD and it does the auto-save, is the delay artificial? I wouldn't mind opening the OSD to write to SD if I could do it more quickly. I'm assuming we're just writing a few kb for something like a SNES game.
Alexey Melnikov
The way it made is to control the moment when writes to SD card happens. Otherwise it may happen either when you turn MiSTer off or press reset button which will corrupt the file system.
Dandi and Matija
Any chance of getting a toggle to write auto-saves to storage without having to open the OSD menu?
