Something for the Skill Monkeys like myself out there, this is probably one of the most meta mechanic related items that I have designed yet. It's meant to suit the Jack of Trades, hence the name and the final line of the quote overlooked.
While originally I thought about adding expertise to the pile, it did not suit the name or intention of not being a master. Instead it was replaced with the Fail Better option, which after the fact I feel harkens back to the old days of Taking 20 or 10.
As always, your thoughts, and questions are encouraged, especially with something powerful in the skill sense.

Description:
These layered bands of metal were rumored to be forged sheerly for necessity by one of the masters of ages past. The main body of the ring holds a padded inner design that allows the snug and comfortable fit, while a secondary band encompasses it. The secondary band is decorated in small etched symbols, and secured by jade facing, whose unique design allows it to spin freely.
Tabs:
- Wearing this ring grants a +2 bonus to all ability checks and saving throws.
- The user is able to add their proficiency modifier to any ability check made with tool kits.
- Selected Skill: During a Short Rest, the user can rotate the symbols of the ring to a corresponding Skill. The user gains proficiency in that skill until they use this feature again or end attunement to this ring.
- Fail Better: As a Reaction, if the user fails a check with the selected skill. They can replace the number rolled with 20 instead, succeeding instead if they surpass the DC. Once used, this feature cannot be used again until the next Dawn.
