There is also a huge discussion in Reddit about all the things that were promised or hinted at by the creators of NMS (<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4y4i3a/wheres_the_nms_we_were_sold_on_front_page/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4y4i3a/wheres_the_nms_we_were_sold_on_front_page/</a> <a href="http://www.onemanslie.info/the-original-reddit-post/)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.onemanslie.info/the-original-reddit-post/).</a> My take on this is that the scope of the game was too big, and they had to scale it down to meet their delivery date.

I really hope this game ends up being a sort of Proof of Concept which leads to a larger studio buying up Hello Games' tech to create a Destiny meets No Man's Sky sort of FPS MMORPG... One can dream...

You've made a really good point regarding the feedback loops, it's the main reason I haven't pre-ordered the game. The concept is amazing and from what I've seen, the polish they've achieved for a procedurally generated game of this scale is impressive, but... what would you do in a universe this amazing? I find I keep comparing No Man's Sky to Minecraft and the major difference seems to be not the aesthetic, but the way each game was produced. Minecraft was developed over an extensive period of time and Mojang relied on user feedback to build the core gameplay to be as varied as possible. This ultimately meant that all the unique worlds on offer couldn't become boring because of what you do there.

Thanks for the quick reply. Also, I just wanted to say that I can't help but read all your comments and updates with your voice in my head haha

Probably: I mean, so much goes into reviews. Expectations, hype, how the game is marketed, the fantasy the developer is try to sell, the genre, the developer's history, etc. Price would likely have an impact.

Do you think the reviews would be far more positive if it was priced at the 30$ pricepoint instead of it being a full-price 60$ game? (Not from the US - just using $ for simplicity lol).

I don't regret picking it up on release day, but I could definitely understand people who do. The depth of what a procedurally generated universe can provide is not nearly as great as the number of planets it can generate. The subject of NMS would make for a brilliant add-on to your video about Spelunky's tile-based design.

It looks all very surface level from a design perspective. I'd love to see you do a video on it, but fear you might rip it to shreds:)

I'm holding off on buying this until the dust settles. But from the looks of it there needs to be a greater variety in the randomness. I wonder if they have the ability to patch in more options for their generator, if they've been clever enough to make that possible.

I havent played it but looking in from the outside your feelings about NMS definitely confirm some of my fears and thoughts about the game. Im glad I decided to hold off for a while.
