The Legend of Zelda / Zelda II's dungeon design | Boss Keys
🕑 Added 2017-11-17 23:32:35 +0000 UTC Hey folks! I think this post got gobbled up on the way to your feed so lemme send it again!New Boss Keys. The penultimate episode, with a detour to examine the games that started it all before we wrap up with Breath of the Wild. Probably in January.
Then, a break! And then season 2. Which, more than likely, will be Metroid.

Giving me chills here, Mark- Awesome episode! been dying to hear what you have to say about BoTW... I'm pumped!
I really liked the little chronological sum up you make at the end of the video. Very concise and it shows how far you've gone in understanding Zelda's dungeons' philosophy. Even though Zelda 1 and 2 dungeons weren't worth of an entire episode, I think this could make for a nice introduction to the series, summing up all the design evolutions the series will see in the other boss keys episodes.

No no, it was due to be made public at that time :) 24 hours after the $5 preview!

I really enjoyed this episode, Mark! I know you said you didn’t want to do it because the level design wasn’t so great, but hearing you critique why it didn’t work, and how the ideas were fixed later was really illuminating. I hope you do more of this type of video, where you take some innovative almost-but-not-quite ideas, critique them, and maybe give some ideas of how to fix it. I’d find that super valuable!

Because the Zelda 1 dungeons aren't self-contained, as he said - keys have to be carried over between dungeons sometimes, and can be at any time, so they'd be like the one chart he did show that was basically just a list.

Excellent choice of credits music.

Why didn't you make charts for the Zelda 1 dungeons? Do you have a set of charts for all the games somewhere?

Oop! I think you set the YouTube video to public by accident too! Maybe? Who knows. Great episode!
