So I just finished up my new instalment of Developing. This time, I try to turn my prototype into a proper game... only to get completely stumped by genres. Puzzle... or platformer? You can watch an early version here.
Hope you dig it! Speak soon

I'm reminded of the game Fez. At first it seems like a platformer, even with some tricky sections, but that's only half the game. The other half is Myst-like environmental puzzles, that you can easily overlook while focusing on the platforming.

Yeah, there's lots of ways to fix it - but, ultimately, if I'm having to make up contrivances just to push it to being a platformer, I should probably listen to the game as it's clearly telling me to make it a puzzler!

What if the magnet was an electromagnet with a small battery attached. It would slowly lose its power when not held by the player. When the player is holding it the battery would recharge. That would give a narrative reason why the magnet would be able to change polarity and sometimes not stick to metals.
