RE: Chimera Squad, it is completely boggling to me that in all I've followed it, I have yet to see or hear anyone compare the interleaved turn system to Banner Saga's. They're not the same, but I can't be the only person who remembers an acclaimed trilogy in the same genre that wrapped up not even two years ago! Not a complaint towards you, just the cabin fever getting to me, I think. Beyond that, I'm surprised at your thoughts on the strategy layer. It's true that scars exist, but there are a lot of mitigating factors to distinguish it from the traditional XCOM death spiral. Automatic healing between encounters keeps them rare, the ability to heal them with just a couple days' training makes them recoverable, and some scars are nominal enough that you can just ignore themin a pinch. They're non-trivial to be sure, but I see them more as an impetus to rotate your squad members than as anything that would torpedo a run. Similarly, I was impressed by how *lean* it is, taking 3-5 minutes to gear up for the next mission compared to War of the Chosen's 45-60 minutes. It's not as brisk as Into the Breach, but it's extremely brisk for XCOM while still being recognizably XCOM, and I give them a lot of credit for that. (And if I'm really being cantankerous, my hot take of the evening is that XCOM2's Tactical Legacy Pack does the mission conveyor belt better than Into the Breach. :P )

Since subscripting to your channels a couple of years ago I've definitely started to notice how developers use gameplay pillars, and I concur that TLOU 2 has some of the best pacing I've seen in a game. It seems that the type of activity was changing just as I was started to get bored - that's how you keep players engaged.
