Would there be a way to do pixel-perfect scaling? As you mentioned, you can't scale 1600x900 cleanly up to 1920x1080 or even 2560x1440, but if you go fully 2x (3200x1080), you could fit nicely in a 4k resolution (3840 x 2160)

Good job with UI, Mark! Although, I would recommend you to highlight the focus state not only on checkboxes, but also on their respective text labels. It will provide clearer communication on what option is selected now. Same thing with selection of colors for magnet. Whether to highlight an entire row or only the label that says “primary magnet color” is up to you.)

One vote for "Pixel perfect", if only because it's an option I've seen and understood in other games.

Joe Morris

Yay hopeful Switch version! 👍🏻😊

> game basically just has a list with 100 bools Do you literally mean a List? If so, you might want to switch to a Dictionary, even if most of the keys are of the form levelNN. If your game logic needs a List for some reason, you can pretty easily go from the Dictionary to the List in your deserialization code. Using a keyed rather than ordered serialization format is a bit slower, and does lead to more space usage, but for 100 or so items we're talking somewhere around 1kb, and microseconds of parsing time. On the other hand, keyed formats are way less prone to mistakes (was that special item bool 93 or 94?), and easier for humans to read (no need to remember whether to adjust between a 0-indexed list and 1-indexing ordinal level names).

Thanks Dave - I’ll change that

Awesome work! I love it when a plan comes together. FYI, "Ambience" would be a more standard label for the "Repetitive" SFX control. https://gameaccessibilityguidelines.com/provide-separate-volume-controls-or-mutes-for-effects-speech-and-background-music/

Might be easier to explain the toggle in reverse. Something like "Stretch/scale/zoom play area to fill screen" mirrors terminology users know from setting desktop backgrounds.

Game Maker's Toolkit

No, the game is always 16:9 - it's whether to zoom the camera in to fill the screen or to leave a border and have it be pixel perfect.

FeatureKreep

Can we toggle between the old and new UI icons? :D

Doft

Shouldn't the "pixel perfect" option be named something like "maintain aspect ratio"?

Ddgr

You can clearly see where Mark started trying to draw a good gear icon and where exactly he got tired of that s**t.

Tommy Mitchell

Love the new UI! The icons are really clear, but I think it’d be helpful to also have titles for each tab (a new player might wonder why there’s two control tabs, for instance). I think a more apt term for your ~100 bools are flags.
