327 The Silent Automata

Here's a forest encounter map with some interesting lore to kickstart a cool adventure. It is a secluded location in the depths of a great forest where an ancient ruin awaits after eons of abandonment. In the middle of an eroded expanse of stone tiles, three large pillars with alcoves in them house three grand automata. The obscure statues appear humanoid but the facial features reveal they were part of an ancient race different from humans. These three automata are immobile but some reports suggest that they have moved a few times in the past 300 hundred years. The movements are so rare, apart, or faint that little is known of them or what causes the statues to move.
We've included some background lore in a style we had not used in a long while. Most of the lore is told in the first person, from the point of view of a young prince's tutor who knows the place first hand. This style feels livelier when reading and it also includes some of the opinions and ideas of the NPC who tells the story. Let us know what you think.

This is a very good setup. A DM could really take this in a lot of directions. I just started really exploring the Elven Tower library. As a DM for over 30 years, I love the possibilities that I see here! Thanks you.

Ah, I like the possibilities with this one. Are these for use to discover ancient secrets? Are they some sort of guardians? Or is a dark power behind opening a portal for horrors to come into this plane? Very nice. One little thing bugs me, though. In the description, the last sentence on page 2, column 1 is cut off and somehow destroys column 2. "ancient way." stands in the middle of the handwritten text.
