🕑 Added 2025-03-23 04:00:39 +0000 UTCI am working on a little writing commission. I was asked to write about love - what it feels like. I was surprised at how qualified I felt and so I agreed. I wanted to share a few notes [drafts] before starting in on the piece proper once I am back at 100% [this shit is lingering]. I know you all like the sloppy thoughts, so here are a few of the scribbles thus far

Love is like a perfectly full refrigerator. Some [days] are more nourishing than others. Some [days] you spoil your body for the sake of some [well deserved] decadence. Some [days] it is just there to keep you alive. But it is always full. Some people are starving, it's true. Some overeat to their detriment. But being truly in love is never worrying that you will go hungry.
Love is someone else - a witness. Some days we are too comfortable with ourselves. We let ourselves get away with things we know we can just forget. The witness sees us, though. It isn't coercion to take care of ourselves, it is hope. It feels good to fulfill the hope of another. Love can help you take care of yourself when you don't want to.
Love is like combining one of those Tim Tam cookies with chocolate milk. Mole enchiladas with homemade horchata. You never even considered the possibility that two amazing things could be better together. You wonder what else should be combined.
Love dulls the sharpness of the light but brings out the fullness of color. It's the perfect pair of sunglasses. They make your vision more keen without taking away any radiance. And you look amazing wearing them.
Love is feeling the embrace even when she is away. It's knowing that nothing can take away our first kiss. It can take away me - and it will. I will die and decompose and after a few generations it will be like I never was. But our kiss will have always happened. Even if history is fully rewritten. Even if your mind goes before your heart and you can't remember it and I am nothing but dust. It will still have happened. Nothing can change that. We have already won. Love is an absolute victory - the only kind that matters. It changed things for us and made me want to grow and I did and it will always be. Evil can do so much. Hate can destroy so much. But we were invincible for one moment [which is all you can ask from invulnerability]. Love is not looking back.
Love is never being alone again. I will never be alone again. No matter how many centuries pass. When my audios are lost. When my writing is deleted. When my identity is known. When everyone who listened to me can't hear me anymore. Because of you, I will never be alone again.
Love is knowing that life is always worth living because we shared ourselves with each other.
Love is the string that guides a wayward sprout.
Love is actually naked, raw gratitude that everything reminds me of you
Love is the texture you provided me in my life

😭This is so beautiful and we’re so grateful you share things like this with us. — Love is the courage to try to do it better, softer, safer than your parents. To be a place of mutual refuge. For your soul to be the place where the other’s wounds are bandaged—the branch from which their spirit takes flight. It is “this year nearly took us out” AND “we’ve got this.” Love is uncharted territory but with a friend. Love is division. Being “1” before we were “2”–like me and my identical twin. We are our separate selves…but it is magnetic how we still cling to each other. 🧚🏾♂️🧚🏾♂️
