melchi

My guess is that someone gets money for passing along the information.

mmarkgraf212

It comes up in a later chapter.

Null

Thank you for the chapter HOW did they get a contact inside already.... wasn't the research station without Qcomm? How it the traitor able to communicate when Alex has the mercenary regulating comunication?

melchi

I guess that could work. But remember, purpose made items are always better. A 737 could have missile pods and a machine gun but will it ever be better than an F16 in a fight?

Fortunis

Fair. But, I mean, they're space pirates. All of them are under an immediate death sentence if caught. That doesn't exactly lead to warm and fuzzy people.

Gabriel Melnik

I think that the moonlit destiny will have to be refurbished with military grade armaments, mostly because it's been stated that no new tonnage will be assembled in the next year. The easiest solution should be to haggle schematics out of the hawks, given they use shit that already works.

Fortunis

Yeah I've never trusted anyone who actually wants power. They never have good intentions.

Fortunis

Why bother? He can expand his company across an entire planet while expanding his technology base. OMNI is irrelevant really. Once he starts selling better technology than they have he'll either get targeted again and have to fight for his company or he'll end up outshining them as a producer of outstanding star ships and slowly steal their market share. I fully expect the first to happen since he's "outside" STO space and they're free to ignore him.

Mark

I seem to a have a specific negative reaction to all these "throwing people out of airlocks" scenes: I find them singularly repulsive - not only when the obvious bad guy does it but even more so when the mercenaries where "sentenced" to death in a past chapter. Not a criticism of the author, just personal taste/preference: this veers strongly into "grimdark" territory for me, which I usually avoid like the plague.

Ant1h3ld

Leave it to Politicians and CEOs to be abso-fucking-lutely useless. They are a complete waste of air and should be paying for every gram of oxygen they steal from people doing actual work.

Aclys

ah but the STO aren't corporations. They're Politicians.

Aclys

Petrov is never done, Petrov is just waiting to reveal new layer of relevancy and make people cry... Like onion.

Aclys

Yeah, kind of surprised honestly that the STO leadership arent salivating at the idea of smashing the pirates and taking that refurbished shican tech for themselves if bolting some railguns and the like onto pirate ships suddenly makes them a match for their military vessels.

Ryder-09

I dearly hope that one day Alex will replace OMNI as the main engine producer for the STO, just to show the corp up.

Mikołaj

Weird. Normally huge corporations will waste immense amounts of money to make sure they present strong image.

ShadeByTheSea

Honestly was hoping we were done with PETROV STATION :/ I guess it can't be helped. Though I am far more interested in Alex building things than the upcoming fights.

Fortunis

Yeah I'd be willing to bet good money Alexander ends up, taking out a Shican ship and acquiring the technology aboard. Or at least a pirate vessel armed with it. When the pirates eventually show up, hopefully, he can take a couple of hulls reasonably intact. Interesting view behind the curtain. If the Shican are using the pirates as a cats paw (pardon the pun), the STO is in deep shit. Alexander is gonna have to scramble hard to keep his system safe once the fighting starts.

Gabriel Melnik

Well, that confirms it, STO leadership is controlled by the penny counting Boeing CEO.
