Fortunis

Personally I think he'd have been better off using the money to bring in more tech and supplies to give the people there more options and opportunities. Giving drifters fat chunks of cash might sound noble but there's a reason lottery winners tend to go broke fast. Personally I'd have set them up with options and a small chunk of cash.

Gabriel Melnik

When he said I'm going to split this up I assumed 250 millions for Alex and the other half for the families. It would be way too generous otherwise, bordering on dumb.

Shmooggie

Isn’t 500 million divided by 80, 6.25 million?

Shmooggie

Alexander the self starter.

Depends a lot on where the people live. Core worlds are going to be more expensive, like how major metropolitan areas are now, while some worlds might be practically destitute, so living there would be rather cheap. And then you have in-between places like stations where space is limited. A few examples of prices... a small inner system shuttle might cost 5 million credits, Alexander's rental on Petrov station for his shop cost around 100k a year, and he was in the cheapest space on the station. He also spent 70 mil on Eden's End, but he got that for a steal because it was essentially worthless to anyone else.

Gabriel Melnik

Do we have some numbers/metrics on how the people of the future live? I mean what they can buy with their income and how expensive are their expenses?

IdolTrust

That money would only work in secure sectors but Eden is outside of that so it’s worthless unless they go back into that space. Which many wouldn’t because they are here for a reason. Alex should keep the money and give the ones who lost people currency that can work in their society.

mmarkgraf212

It's pretty worthless for the people on Eden's End, but it's enough to live comfortably for the rest of their lives in a non-core world.

If 80 people died to the pirates then it rounds up to 3 millions credits per bereaved. How much money is 3 millions for a normal worker?
