I like all these other points of views. For the longest of times while reading this story I felt a strong disconnect when thinking about the sto. It's just there and I have no tangible clarity of its history and influence. I guess what I'm trying to say is the journey from Earth to sto isn't properly saturating the story and there's a minor disconnect. If that wasn't all that clear I apologize. Normally when I read stories like this there are anecdotes and historical precedent that comes up in the story that builds up or tears down space born nations Image for the reader. I'm not going to say it's completely absent, but it's very thin and that is just sad because I want this story to be rich and I want to appreciate it. What's also important about this backstory is that it gives you the reader something to base your suppositions on. For example our main characters state of body could be due to something one of Earth's nation's did before sto appeared. But you need context and you need anecdotes. Small conversations, little inserts of History and funny stories that somehow turn out real. All that makes a good story. Anyway sorry for the rant. I liked the chapter and I appreciated the small little father daughter interaction in the last one. Even though it was once removed. Looking forward to the next chapter.

I have the same concern. Unless some genius plan , stupid attackers, or plot armor comes into effect it doesn't look good.

From STO battleships to cargo freightliners there is a lot of demand for fuel friendly engines, and given the hard technological limit for the engines, a more efficient one will get more market share. I mean, there is a reason Diesel engines rule the Trucking scene.

He’s close to designing a ship I thought. I vaguely remember that being mentioned in the last few chapters somewhere

True, also cost of fuel vs cost of time is the other argument. It maybe cheaper to pay 5 people 5 more days that it is to get there fast. Bulk transport would probably care more about engine efficient and fuel economy, where as a fast packet delivery service would care more about performance.

Gabriel Melnik

One thing I pondered about Nova's outlook on engine design is the fact that she prioritizes overall engine performance against fuel economy, and then she demeans the less demanding engine as "fuel starved" Think of it like designing an engine for a competitive truck VS an F1 engine.

TFTC, I do enjoy this story and nice to see what is happening else where. I am worried that the Pirate interest is ramping up way to quick and Alex is not having enough time to do anything. Every time we see him he is just slapping a random thing together with duct tape and baling wire. Would be nice if he had a stretch of time to actually develop something and build it. Instead of reacting to what just happened etc. The reason I say this is cause you see these pirate with this massive ships and fleets etc that there is absolutely no way for Alex to survive against at his current pace or current resources. At least not with out years to build up as far as I can see. Just my two cents, and as I said I enjoy this story, hence paying to read it hahaha. I just can not see how Alex will meet a potential pirate invasion any time soon, or I guess STO invasion. Keep up the good work! Look forward to next chapter.
