I know this post is a week old, but i'm just getting caught up after christmas. It bothers me when an author asks for feedback, but when someone tells him something they don't want to hear they spend the time to tell that person why their opinion is wrong. I don't necessarily agree with this guy but honestly you should just say "noted" or "I will keep that in mind". He's also not completely wrong in my opinion. The content is good but instead of doing two or three slow chapters in a row you could break the content up and interspers it in the faster paced chapters. Although I think the pacing problem that he's reacting to is only because he's reading one chapter a day. If read as a book I doubt he would even notice it.

I believe I discuss it in a future chapter that is from Alex's perspective.

mmarkgraf212

His time is yet to come.

Silver Beard

Been keeping along a long while and I haven't brought this up once in all that time. Perhaps you should consider spreading it around instead of all-in-one chapter. Then my argument would hold no weight?! If at least half the chapter had been with the fleet returning... I might have grumbled internally, but I wouldn't have posted.

Shmooggie

Alex losing an argument feels like something I’d want to see a tid bit of. (Like 4 sentences)

Shmooggie

So is nova’s grandson just forgotten?

There has to be a balance of both worlds. BSE was never meant to be straight-up action and adventure, the narrative is heavily character-driven. And because of that, these small moments are equally as important as the space battles.

Silver Beard

Your option; but that's not the story I want to read. Fact. The slice of life has its place, but too many like this and folks following 'action/adventure' will drop the story.

I disagree. I enjoy these character development pulse checks. I can imagine quite a few events that would require this kind of setup. For one, we get a description of what the instrument is actually used for. Secondly, we now know Yulia is getting self defense training and has started her own rental car business. I could see a possible confrontation in the near future, probably with that Charlie punk, where she ends up kicking his ass. That would seem kind of unexpected without this little set-up.

Merlin's Fan

How would it affect his mental stability though if he admitted to something like that though. He believes he is human, and where did the memories come from?

Silver Beard

Well written, but I didn't feel like it added anything to the story or the plot. (If you deleted this chapter- nobody would ever miss it).

Caleb Reusser

Random gravity changes happen just as much on a planet as in space. It is just that on a planet those random changes are orders of magnitude below the planetary gravity so they aren't noticed. If the instrument is sensitive enough to notice them in space it would be sensitive enough to notice them on the planet. So it might be better to ignore the discussion of random gravity flucations and just mention that the known planetary gravity can be accounted for and it isn't worth the inconvenience of her going to space and trying to safely transport the delicate equipment.

Zachary Patterson

Thank you for the chapter! Our little entrepreneur!

Gabriel Melnik

He really is underselling what he has done and what he is capable though. I don't think any dirt poor individual could make so many factories in less than a year inside an active warzone.
