Ugh! Yes, I probably should have explained that a bit better- so the things they harvest from those worlds are 2 fold. For one they take the raw resources, rare-metals, wood and other things they need. Second, remember how the worlds connect to other worlds? Well, they also farm the offshoots which are nearly always world-shards of shattered worlds they can't otherwise safely reach. (Mostly for cards) The reason the eventually stop this is because the instability of the farming world becomes to great an effort to control and the risk of it spreading to the hubworld and causing chaos become to real. Now, the reason rumors are starting to spread aobut giard is, that based on everything the people on Fiverio know, Giard should have shattered weeks ago. The fact that it hasn't is going to cause some issues, panic being one of them :) Now, I've just added to my list of to do things that I should better explain this at the spot in the story where this is actually relevant. The panic bit will become more clear in the upcomming chapter, though.

Fixed, thanks!

You know, this reminds me of a question that I've had for a very long time - what is farmed on farming worlds? I had assumed cards, but they stopped farming Irwin's home even when presumably there's plenty of cards to farm, especially with the portals everywhere. Also never really grokked the whole 'let the worlds attached to our hub world shatter, eventually downgrading our own world's importance' idea, either. In retrospect, it probably would have ben a lot more helpful if I had pointed that out in the chapters you were describing the reasons...
