Suein - Usunica was the initial name I gave that character if I recall. Looks like I forgot changing one. Thanks for pointing it out, fixed it in the previous chapter!

Mariusz Klimczak

Card description states that the girl's name is Suein Va Dolira, but in the previous chapter the narration referred to her as Usunica. Which one is correct?

Antony Claughton

If the old Yuurindi can communicate with all her descendants, if the storm lets up should they start getting the Yuurindi to congregate for easy pick up?

Albert Benny Oliyakkattil

Tftc!

I'd like to check in on Scintilla and the kids and everyone else on the Concerto, maybe see them arrive safely and hear about the journey, plus interaction with Irwin's Family. If not that then maybe a Trimdir/Hodor segment.

Not Me

Question that came up from seeing that Su's father got his fingers smashed: what happens to someone's ability to slot cards if they get dismembered and lose a hand? Does the card slot still exist, just invisibly? Does it creep up to the next available spot on the arm? Do the cards get retained, or dropped, or vanish into the ether? And if there are serious card-related consequences to losing one's hands, are there laws or punishments around it? It seems like it could be a near-capital punishment to permanently lose access to one's card slots and future growth, assuming that cutting off the hands entirely stops people from slotting and using cards. Or it could be an effective way to literally disarm enemy combatants until they gain access to some form of regeneration, if cutting off hands unslots the cards or merely impedes their usage until the hands are back.

Not Me

Yeah, it's not yet slotted. But it seems like it would a good idea to consult new-Gelwin on the concept first. Irwin is already cleaving pretty close to Gelwin's self-cloning specialization by having a soul clone card, and being able to consult a millennia-old true expert on self-resurrection would almost certainly give Irwin new insights that let him get more out of the card combination. Of course, new-Gelwin probably has no idea that Irwin exists, so that might be an interesting conversation if it ever happens.

Not Me

Thanks for the chapter! I really enjoyed seeing Irwin's progression progress and shore up his lower-level skills. His thought about going for "only" Emerald is a long way from where he was just a few years ago, where going from Topaz to Emerald was an achievement. There's a lot of room for growth in improving his foundations before taking his next steps. I wonder how long it will be until he can one-tap reforge Quartz to Topaz, maybe even doing so by hand without his hammer - just slap the card into a higher grade. I'm also curious if his knowledge of card overcharging is something he can leverage in other directions. Would overcharging his own non-Ammolite hand slot cards make his future heartcard/soulcard better, or just more unstable and difficult to craft? Perhaps he could somehow reduce the soulforce in a card to reduce its complexity and number of abilities, and take it below its most natural path, to increase its stability and ability to reforge to a higher grade. This might be useful for giving people higher-grade first soulcards while only having access to lower-potential cards, which is certainly a going concern on Eluathar. Or potentially even reducing the soulforce in a card to non-destructively downgrade it and make it possible for people with weaker soul capacity to slot. The ability to maximize a card in a rank seems like it might not be really uncommon knowledge among Ruby rank smiths and up, especially ones that do cooperative smithing, just an uncommon practice because it requires a lot of extra soulforce on hand and a deliberate destabilization of the card. But it's also probably not something that ever came up because Irwin has a lot of room to grow upwards, whereas this ability seeks to maximize results within a limited space - something an experienced medium-grade smith who is trying to stretch their skills and resources to deal with practical realities might have. I wonder if there's practical experts of this vein who Irwin can consult, people who aren't superior smiths because they lack the cards or natural talent or drive or whatever, but have accumulated experience and techniques to get a lot out of a little, and would be willing to share that with Irwin.

Not Me

Probably? I'm sure there's plenty of comments that are things other people have thought too. I just love the worldbuilding and the fact that stuff exists beyond the reader and what we immediately see. But thanks!

Eric M

Fascinating twist. I wonder what Gloom will know about being a potential shadow lord. I suspect Gloom already knew actually.

Nicholas Del Rossi

Not me, have you ever left a comment that did not make readers minds start to explore new wonders about the story in question? Like ever leave a basic one that won’t make me start wondering my own trains of thought for a good 10 to 30 minutes? Good comment by the way. You might not have guessed but it got me thinking for a bit.

Nicholas Del Rossi

No they are saving that for the next slot.

Not Me

How is life going for the left-behinds? For the other people in Irwin’s sorcerer abduction group and/or pre-card village? Like Clarish or that one ex-bully ranger who spent a couple decades in a portal or that one water mage Ambraz crafted a card for? It would be neat to hear about Daubutim or Doomblades’ story through a secondhand source that way. Also, what’s up in Irwin’s soulscape? Surely the Yuurindi have spent enough time in there to have started colonizing the place, swimming in the soullake, or at least let their little ones build stick forts in the sheet music forest. But is spending months inside another being’s soulscape doing anything to their own? Or are they able to get any special insights on Irwin or his forging from the outside looking in (inside looking out?) because they’re standing inside and observing his soul?

Naglis Brizgys

Question unrelated to this chapter; did Irwin slot the card he got for saving the lords nephew? The "false life" card?

Nicholas Del Rossi

So what we are saying is we all want different pov’s hope this helps.

Govir Drauka

If they’ll be back to the home world in a chapter or two, I don’t think we need a PoV of what’s happening there. Since it’ll just be explained once they get there. Doomblade would be interesting if his story isn’t going to intersect for a bit, but also I think there are some dangling threads around Irwin that could be tied up. 1. What’s up with the father and Su? Are they staying behind, or being swept up by Greldo. 2. Are the old Yuurindi coming, and what do they know about the grandmother? 3. Was there more with the smiths of this world, or was that all resolved?

Stephen Pearson

Great chapter, thanks! :-)

GeneralDuck

TFTC, I'd like to see if scintilla and the kids got back already and/or what happend at the exit portal that was being attacked, also in the card description:

Antony Claughton

We need to see what happens with Su and her father, find out exactly what a runesmith can do, we should see how many Yurindi arrive and their reactions to being stuffed inside Irwin, see if there is any final negotiations to get ship building expertise and finally find out what they plan to do with all of those ships.

Antony Claughton

Ha ha ha!

Black Rose

Gloom interacting with su

Shiva Kumar

Irwin's nephew perspective maybe

Nicholas Del Rossi

Hhmmm, I like all those pov’s if I have to pick one, Daibutim was up to some stuff with the first wave of the invasion force, and it’s been a while sense we got an update to that.

Black Rose

Scintilla interacting with MIL

Rielgesh

Some sense of how Eluathar is doing would be nice, maybe from one of the kids perspectives? I'd not expect to see another Doomblade perspective until they make it through the glacial region to Eluathar, unless something happens. Might also be interesting to see if there's any sense of the new "allegiance" from Greldo's perspective?

Nicholas Del Rossi

The card? It showed up in the chapter it was created in? That’s not how this works! What next, will we start getting 4 chapters a week? Are blessings going to start falling out of the sky? Is a wizard going to knock on my door and teach me magic?

Carrarn

Been having some issues with my grammar software again lately - I'll try and find some time to read yesterdays chapter, and see what is wrong this time. Also - see? I don't always forget to add the cards! :P (And no, not going to give you all the handcards. Those weren't nearly as interesting as the heartcard: ) We are going to be heading back into the storm midnext chapter, and I'll probably be doing some timeskips. What perspective do you guys and girls want to see? It will probably take them a chapter or a bit more to get back. You can pick from Doomblade, Daubutim on that side of things, Rindiri or Greldo on the ship, or... well suggest something and I might be able to fit it in :)
