So, the idea was that they become progressively more informed about the way the plague works, and that they eventually figure out that a ruby-rank or higher hand card helps. However, reading through 402, I can see how that didn't come across as such. Thanks for pointing it out, I've made a note for myself to fix it Friday if I have the time, otherwise I'll get through it as soon as possible. The idea is that they hear that soulcards help, later they find out that heartcards help, and only much later, due to a limit of people with them, that certain typed ruby-rank or higher cards, also give some form of protected. It is supposed to be a progressively revealing of more nuanced information. Thanks for pointing out that it might not come across as such!

So I just saw the part about ruby handcards… Didn’t you say a few chapters back that handcards do nothing for the immunity against the plague and they have to get a heartcard to be resistant/ immune?

The kid wants a giant safe soulscape to live in. But his real body can't go into his own so that won't work

Which left him with a growing desire... a desire to change his faith, to get a giant, safe soulscape to live if the need arose. -> Faith doesn’t seem like the right word here. — He gleaned and looked around the small amounts of possessions he'd managed to gather -> gleaned doesn’t seem like the right word here. — "He usually starts reforging shortly after," he said. "And that continues for a long time. If I don't get there before he starts." -> last sentence is awkward, unless it’s meant for him to be trailing off… — I think your choice is the right one, CapCaptainut… -> not sure what’s going on here :) — wished he could thrush back home -> rush — Although he'd stared pretty strongly -> started — that this was based on their length. -> height.
