K, the separation was supposed to read as a more 'natural' thing were the boys just did that themselves. It should become clear that Mia will hang out a lot with Flux, and with the other boys, though less. I've got a bit of a dynamic between them, but it should hopefully become clear in the future chapters, for as long as we are on this easy going bit of the arc :) The whales will be explained soon. I like Zan too, and I agree with you that not everyone can be a fearless hero. That said, I fully expect there to be a group of people that will go 'god she's annoying' and 'I hate that one' The two portal thing is very rare, but I agree with you that its a good idea to pop a bit of forshadowing in much earlier. There have been references of shardworlds with multiple portals, so perhaps I can add a bit during one of those bits. The time distortion is biggest the closer to the gas giant someone is, which is why their new moon is so much faster compared to the outside world. There's a reason for that, but I'll wait to see who finds it out first :) I'll try and add a bit more info on how many cards Irwin brought, but you are right that they can't just practice indiscriminately for months without finaly exhausting it. The more stable a world, the more likely they are to find portals deeper. The current moon they are on, and the others, are barely rank 2, and might have a portal, or perhaps to, but its highly unlikely that they are easy to find. Thanks for the feedback and the positive comments :)

I'll add it to my list of things to think about when editing/rewriting. You are definitely not wrong, but I'll need to think on it as it would change a few things in my plans and the chapters beyond. Still - good feedback! :)

A few other thoughts: * Why were the boys & girls separated for training? * I agree with Tan, where are the whales? Did they just leave them to be eaten by Fluries/survive on their own, or able to get them back through one portal, around to the other, and back in? * I like Zan; not everyone has to be optimistic or want to fight. Some are cautious, and sometimes they're right to be! * Is having two portals to the portal gallery a common thing? If rare, how rare? I think this is the firs time it has even been mentioned. If rewriting, possibly something to sneak a mention of it into an earlier book to establish it can happen (also the templates). * Is the time distortion only biggest when 'switching' moons (i.e. going closer to the gas planet)? Or does it vary between moons. Because I'd have expected them to be gone longer given the time spent scouting the new moons themselves near the surface. * They're spending part of their time smithing (Irwin & Dahlia); surely their supply of raw materials for 'normal' smithing, and cards for card smithing, will be limited? Do they really have enough for months and months of practice while they spend time here? I suppose I'm a little confused exactly what they're gaining from staying here (at least, before they found the potential source of templates). * Is it unusual to not find further portals within the world to 'deeper', less stable planets? It seems like across the 3 (was it 4?) moons they've scouted they haven't found a single one. Thanks for the story. It is fantastic.

Ambraz says on the templates: "With nobody having been here before, it might be a bit better than that, but we aren't going to sell them," Ambraz said. "If we can find even one, Irwin can use it to copy a card he only has one of to experiment with. Then, after he turns it into what he needs, he can use the template card to create multiple copies with far less effort." But wouldn't it be better to produce copies at the lowest level card possible of a card Irwin wants? He can then upgrade it with the only cost being time. That would allow the template to produce more cards since it is doing the lower level card, and give Ambraz more output from more smithing. rather than copying the 'final' version.

I'll likely do a poll and let you guys decide who becomes the smiths among the kids. That said, the poll won't have all six kids, as I have plans for a few of them.

After Ignitzians are 'set' they start getting their own soulresonace, which will diverge from their parents. For now, they might be able to, but in a few years it wouldn't be possible

Carrarn

Had to go back and check on that, but you are right. Changed it to Scour (the planet with Crithann) - As the story becomes longer, and I need to add more and more backstory to things (stuff you guys don't see) it becomes easy to forget/mix things up :)

It was described as they left that Irwin had already added supplies for years, and Boohm still thought it insufficient, adding even more. Its held in those rune barrels to keep fresh/edible.

Maybe Ambraz can create some baby ganvils for them?

I am wondering if they can work with Am'braz like Irwin did when he was starting out. It sounded like Am'braz and Irwin share a resonance at this point, and the kids do as well, so Am'braz may be able to level from the kids eventually, although they are a long way from reaching Irwin's output. Might be able to link himself to Irwin's entire family line for generations to come. He'd have a real shot at tier 8+ that way. Honestly, as long as nothing happens to him or Irwin, I think tier 8 is a given, even with how little smithing Irwin does at times. They keep finding so many interesting opportunities for growth.

Cal

What I am actually really looking forward to most is whichever kiddos choosing to be smiths working with Irwin on card smithing... They all have similar resonance right, so they could in theory take over one part of the resonance to make more complicated stuff?

Cal

This chapter was great! Really curious to see what cards the kiddos end up with... Was interesting to see some of the interests too - looks like we might get a musician, a couple of smiths, a ship card kiddo and a sword user, maybe a shadow walker too?

WindGunner

Do none of them need to eat? How do they have provisions for such a long time

Eric M

Fantastic chapter! Too bad they can't get any cards drops.

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! :-)

Greldo said, panting from the heat. "Damn, I preferred the dry heat of Igniz." I don't believe he ever left the ship while there.
