Govir Drauka

Well now that I finished the chapter this seems highly inappropriate…

Govir Drauka

“Cracks appeared on the wall beside him as Irwin played the intro to one of his kid's favorite songs.” 🎶🎶Ba-by shark! Doo doo, do doo🎶🎶

Stephen Pearson

Awww. I liked him being the friendly, reasonable version of the fire affinity boogeyman:-)

Carrarn

Had a debate about this with a few proofreaders that I know irl and the final conclusion is what you will read in the next chapter. Short of it, two agreed with you, one didn't, and in the end, we came to a consensus that made sense to us.

Carrarn

Check the next chapter's comment for a response to this :)

Carrarn

You are right. When he first used it on an Ignitzian, he was hoping / willing it not to harm them, but he never did find out if that was exactly what it was. That said, there are occasions where his flame didn't work. Not all types of fire affinity beings are susceptible to his devouring flame. Until it becomes very important, I'll leave it up for you to discuss which it is for now :)

Eric M

Not sure if that is a retcon, or if they just weren't sure why they were immune in the end, but he did know it didn't hurt them from his time on Scour. Just uncertain that the card doesn't injure them based on his intent, and if so, that he is certain that is why.

Cal

Totally agree - he needs to invest cards into building a proper army, and gathering more ships

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! Also, is his fire not hurting Ignitzians a retcon? I thought it didn't hurt Ignitzians because he deliberately prevented it.

Antony Claughton

It does highlight how “giving” free cards to the blademaidens is actually an investment in defence (and loyalty). I thought his thinking in the previous chapters was very naive and self centred. Stronger blade maidens would only take time and would mean his kids were safer.

Antony Claughton

Rushing back is stupid. He might be too late to save anyone in either place. And if the attack on the base is successful, they’d bring the prisoners here. He could miss them as they go past each other if they’re following different routes (likely if their mode of transport is different).

Antony Claughton

tree Niox ==> three Niox

Antony Claughton

Grelo ==> Greldo or Grel

Antony Claughton

real price ==> real prize

Cal

Such a cliffhanger! But yeah, he needs to fight these ones while he can, and trust his crew to hold off until he arrives

Richard Brown

I agree with his actions

Carrarn

Funnily, we are actually going to find out in the next few chapters :) (with we, I mean you ofcourse)

Eric M

I think he made the right call, and he isn't staying for the entire fight, he's going to wreck the 3 strongest and leave the others to mop up.

Eric M

This sucks, I wish we knew how they were tracking them.

Carrarn

First off, sorry for the cliff- I didn't intend it, but its already 5k words :( Second - I struggled a bit with this chapter, as I want Irwin's actions to make sense based on the situation. I know some will say that he should rush back first thing, and I can understand, but I felt this made sense. If it doesn't and people feel strongly, let me know. I've got a week to tweak or change it if a lot of you dislike this chapter. (now to hope most of you agree with each other :P)
