This was something that confused me when they built their “town” as well. Not sure how it could be village sized, let alone a town.

Carrarn

Correct, that should definitely be Granvox. Will be going back through the chapters to edit some stuff as soon as I get time, but fixed this one quickly.

I’m not so sure. Have we ever seen a blade maiden not want a very specific card it might be a part of their culture even earlier on they didn’t want to equip even temporary cards to the two who had room for them. I could be missing details of course there’s definitely a bunch of empty space, in our knowledge base of their culture and activities meeting Arwin also for some reason, I kept thinking there were less blade maidens than these recent chapters imply so I might still be wrong if I’m still underestimating their numbers,

Loved the attitude that came across in this chapter. The anger Irwin is feeling is palpable. Reminds me of a D&D game I played in when the DM had my character's family kidnapped. My friends had never seen me show anger like that before. We had also captured one of the guys that had helped with the kidnapping. There are potentially very dark roads that Irwin can go down with this interrogation that he may never be able to come back from. I have a couple of thoughts where this might be heading and I can't wait to see how you work this.

It will be funny when the Niox barges back in thinking his home base is fine! :)

Meant to be response to Carrarn’s post below: Irwin is young. Don’t shy away from him making mistakes and learning. Even if it costs a friend’s life. Regret is part of life. Making it Irwin’s stuff up makes him more human and relatable, and gives you some writing choices later. Also, given how many maidens there are, how many cards he has and his ability to forge sideways, it would feel unlikely that he couldn’t have helped some before hand. Saying he couldn’t help any sounds unrealistic. The blade maidens all hanging out for one specific card, versus the chance to have Irwin create a synchronised card and then a heart card also sounds ridiculous. It would go against how most characters behave in this universe . Even if a few would behave that way, most would surely jump at the boost in power. Many never get good cards, let alone perfect cards. Hanging out for a particular card seems unlikely.

They all need to start taking cards... They can't fight soul carded with only hand cards

Antony Claughton

He stopped all sounds, Irwin thought. That meant he knew Irwin had a sound-based card and the only way he could imagine it was that whoever had sent them had information from his time on Giard. ====>>> didn’t Irwin only get sound based cards on Gravollox? On Giard he was still on his first heart card wasn’t he?

wounds across it wounds ==> wounds across it’s body then they were ==> than they were its waste ==> its waist

Damn, Boohm grew on me so much more than I realized. Really hope he is just badly wounded rather than dead.

Stephen Pearson

Great chapter, thanks! :-)

Carrarn

I read the responses to the previous chapter, and based on that, and what I thought as I wrote this chapter, I am going to make a few changes in the earlier chapters. The idea was that the Blademaidens didn't want anything but very specific cards and that Irwin didn't have enough to make them- not that he was unwilling. I reread them and can see why it came across like that, and I'll be making some changes later. My idea is that Irwin is actually very much in favor of helping people get cards, just as long as they don't expect him to do everything for free. That said, he is probably going to be a bit more adamant that they get their first heartcard, even if it means it might not be the exact dream card they wanted.
