Power creep. Very hard to manage. One one hand characters needs not be too overpowered and on the other I love seeing new cards and abilities.

Antony Claughton

It reminds me of that forging planet they went to with the huge time dilation. It did have smiths, it was important, but by memory it only had two multi soul carded. The duke and his spear teacher. Balancing early story strength versus later strength must be hard. It seems everywhere he now goes soulcarded are dime a penny.

Carrarn

I'm not to get to sidetracked all the time ;) But if more people feel this way I can make sure to add the occasional bits. I've added your comment to my scarilly long list of things to do for when I ever get this far with rewriting :)

Carrarn

True, but most worlds don't even have cardsmiths. It's mostly the wealthy worlds that do, due to how expensive it is. For most people who find cards, its easier to sell them and get what they want, while others just buy them. It's also why most smaller worlds have barely any soulcarded. This goes for all border branches- going further in, things are different.

Josh McDonnell

Remember on Ambraz world he said the Smith guilds thinks of them as property?

Josh McDonnell

500.000 cardsmiths seems low. If there are thousand s of worlds in the small branch would that not be billions of people? Even on earth small countries has more doctors then that.

Josh McDonnell

Doesn't he still need to reforg the card form the monster that hunts the whales?

Govir Drauka

Recalling his anger when she'd spoken about the captured ships -> I think this is smiths, not ships. — inside of an in -> inside of an inn

Antony Claughton

Pity we didn’t see any of his shopping. What card types was he looking for? Was he successful finding them? Did he have to trade a card of his own? How did the guild master react to both the card types he was asking for, and the reforged by Irwin Roddington card(s) he’d have sold? Feels like we missed what could have been its own interesting chapter.

Antony Claughton

Rereading, Ambraz is also cool to her. Yet has never met her. So, it’s likely something bigger.

Dao of Fried Foods

He didn't destroy the ship he was on when he forged his titans heartcard. Any specialized facilities held by the cardsmiths guild rated for dimond smiths should be able to handle him in either form, unless he's screwing around with whale cards. Those can be unruly.

Antony Claughton

Actually, now Irwin plans to use soulforce, music AND size to forge cards! They’ll need a REALLY tall testing room. Tee hee.

Dao of Fried Foods

My money is on jealousy. She was probably told she wasn't talented enough to get one and, 300 years later, she's a guildmistress and the second best cardsmith on the planet of 60,000. Probably thinks she's owed an apology for not being able to see her potential back when she was topaz.

Eric M

They did spend 6 hrs hitting up those dozen card shops from the restaurant to the guild hall

Antony Claughton

So the other crew stay on the small ship, rather than joining him? I’m surprised Irwin didn’t ask about any of the smiths he knew and if they survived. Not that the guild master would likely know them off the top of her head, other than Tensor. And it will be fascinating to find out why the guild master doesn’t like Ganvils. Although, given her age and position it appears unusual she didn’t hide the reaction. Unless she doesn’t care who knows?

Antony Claughton

Something that occurred to me this chapter. This is a minor branch. But it has Gravanox, the only source of Granvils. Wouldn’t the Cardsmith guild on the central branches consider holding this branch critical?

Antony Claughton

why he wasn't ==> why wasn't he flitted away for her ==> flitted away from her an in, ==> an inn, Nine-eight ==> Ninety-eight and curiously ==> and curious

Josh McDonnell

Also would not he be too powerful? Like he could destroy the building and people just by forging in his giant form. He almost hurt a lot of people at the dinner.

Ceasarty

Is the last comment from Greldo about finding something to eat cause he didn’t/couldn’t eat any of the food at the restaurant they just came from?

Nicholas Del Rossi

He does have the steam to cover him but I am not sure he can maintain it while forging a diamond rank card, assuming he aims that high.

Eric M

Yea he's a better smith with more control in his larger form. I forgot about the clothes though, from this chapter it sounds like no clothes would be fine with the guildmaster 😋

Josh McDonnell

But in his giant form is not more powerful? So he would be less powerful and lower rank in smaller normal form. Also what about clothes? He needs giant size outfits. Right?

Josh McDonnell

Thanks for the chapter! Feel better!

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! :-)

Eric M

Love the idea of testing him, kind of hope they do it in an arena setting so many can attend and experience his process. And it would be amazing to see him do it in his giant form, but he would probably be better off to keep some secrets.

Carrarn

Even though I stopped when it got to bad, I still managed to mess up yesterdays chapter due to my migraine. There was a bit about Skylar at the end which was wrong, as skylar (like some of you pointed out) never went with Irwin- that were some of the others. I've removed that for now. That'l teach me not to write when I'm not in my right mind ;)
