It's his first heartcard that is the problem. That one is emerald, at least according to my notes. That said, sometimes those aren't correct on the older things, as I've found a few months ago. I'll double check and change things accordingly if needed.

Carrarn

I shall not go into details on Worldcards for another dozen + chapters yet, but we shall have a nice conversation about them in the future :D

Carrarn

That was kind of how I saw it - thought I have to say, these types of discussions where I write out how a character would be (the GM in this case) and then need to make her work in the span of a few characters, are pretty difficult. Its one of the reasons I've been doing them, as I need to learn how to do that well, and you can't learn if you don't try. So any feedback is welcome! If I want to entertain myself and all of you as best as I can, I'll need to keep improving to outperform the AI that are coming for us ^_^ (joke)

Are we sure Greldo is stuck at Emerald? i remember his Heartcards being Ruby. Needs investigating

Carrarn

You are correct, Jason - there are, of course, far more cards in circulation in Suderfuix. It is a city so big it houses millions of people, and there are guaranteed to be a shit ton of cards spread out across it. Besides that, there are a lot of wealthy merchants and nobles who have their own vaults. Also, lets not forget that those with highly stable soulscapes can keep cards there. Maybe not as easily as Irwin, as his soulscape is far beyond the norm in stability, but defenitly some.

Carrarn

There are 59 thousand smiths in the city - check chapter 376. I think you are confused with the number of smiths that are known to be part of the langost smiths guild branch. Only a bit over 10 percent of those are actually in suderfuix, which is both sad and good. Sad, because they don't know what happened to the others, and good because having 500.00 smiths in suderfuix would probably have been a massive issue, not in the least because of the reason you said. Added to this, there are still cards comming up from Suderfuix, and although its not stated, the idea is that what Irwin cleaned out is the backup reserve which means that they are now, for some cardtypes, fully dependant on what arrives from Suderfuix-world.

Carrarn

I'll reread this whole bit in while, to see how I feel about it after, but I'll explain my thought process. That said, I'll add this to my list of things to double check. Now, the idea was that Irwin wasn't a rank two diamond smith before, but he is now. Becoming a rank two diamond smith technically made him out of her reach.

Just 24hrs ago, the GM was conspiring with old tree to keep Irwin from leaving. Now, he just admitted he 'can't' leave because his people 'dropped him off. ' why is her procurement of a new ship a thing she's willing to consider? I don't really understand her motivations and it's making her character feel wishy washy. Like shes just prone to agreeing with whomever she is speaking with. Tomorrow angry tree will change the deal she just made, and she'll just go along with it.

Well we know Ambraz can basically make a card while in Irwin's soulscape. So If I were Irwin I would bring someone with a heart card into his soulscape. Shatter the heartcard and between him and Ambraz try and recreate the composite hand cards from the power released. Then reforge a card or two and recreate the heartcard. As for a Soulcard. That should be considerably harder. He should try and find a way to revert a Soulcard to a handcard. Maybe some way to contain the soulforce released when the Soulcard is shattered. That way when the new handcard is created they can use the contained soulforce to at least partially refill the "patient's" soullake.

Nicholas Del Rossi

Ahh theory crafting the objectively best past time, creativity born of inspiration, taking piece's of something that interests you and fitting them into a new form! (Note its not objectively the best it's subjective i Just really like it.)

Not Me

Since it seems like Irwin intends to upgrade some of his friends' soulcards in the near future, I'm curious on how he intends to do it. Do you all think he'll simply try to refine the extant cards further towards their maximum potential? Or maybe crack one of them open, pull something out, and slot in the new, higher-grade handcard? Or perhaps something else, like reshuffling handcards around from between multiple heartcards/soulcards, to create more thematic alignment. Like if Greldo is taken as an example, all the shadow manipulation were moved to one soulcard, all the physical buffs were on another. All the same pieces would be present, but on different cards so they resonate with different concepts. One of the minor disappointments with the heartcard upgrading is that all of the little quirks seemed to get ironed out in favor of just raw power - Greldo's super grip, Irwin's eyeball powers, the almost-cursed fire card's weakness to cold, etc. It makes sense from a storytelling perspective, to avoid having too many things to keep track of, but it's kind of a shame that some basic elements of their foundational cards have been somewhat hammered out. It would be interesting to see what current Irwin would do if he had access to his and his friends' basic cards. Like, with his experience dealing with curses, would he be able to draw out some other element of his initial fire card? Or with his experience with the size-shifting Titan card, would he have been able to make a more variable (or less variable) Coperion body card? Could Greldo's physical grip card become some sort of more metaphorical or magical grip instead?

Thanks for the chapter! Seems like Parka has a big order to fulfill, wonder if it's something she can substitute cards in for. I'm curious if people can metabolize cards of adjacent types effectively. Like, if someone with a needle card can use thread, blood, metal, tool, clothing, and dexterity cards, someone with a fire card can also use certain light, wood, oil, air, or temperature control cards, or someone with a steam card could use fire, water, air, smoke, and phase change, with lesser efficiency. Irwin has also shown the ability to add types to cards by sideways reforging them, and the various academies have shown they have ways to make specific low-rank cards - does the base typing of the card matter, or can Irwin (or a bunch of random junior guild smiths) effectively "cook" a card into a more digestible set of typings?

Nicholas Del Rossi

Agreed, buuuut, what if you find a loophole? like clones that can leave, or just an ability that lets you avoid the trapped effect with a cost of some kind? we are talking about card Smithing here, we could find a way! or not and Irwin needs to trap himself and thus Ambroz on a world. well Ambroz could leave before becoming a world anvil, but he tends to stick by Irwins side, soo if Irwin was trapped before Ambroz became a world anvil he would probably also be there till he reached the trapped rank.

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter:-)

I still say a worldcard isn’t worth it if you’re stuck there. Maybe there’s a way just to have the power boost when you’re on the world but can still leave..

Antony Claughton

He didn't think she. ==> He didn't think she did. So they just left you here?" ==> So they just left you there?" or ==> So they just left you behind?" those Ganvils are going to, ==> those Guildar are going to do,

Nicholas Del Rossi

So he needed to tell the Guild master there was no giant storm crossing ship out of the city’s senses so she understood it was a practicality that he needed the or later a ship and that there was no one else for him to introduce her to on said ship if she wanted to speak to others from his group.

Nicholas Del Rossi

It’s the type and rarity that is crippling a small group of smiths, at least that’s how I read it, it won’t stop them from smithing but it will limit this source of cards, of this type, for that group, for a short amount of time, and what makes it seem so large is that it’s a trade being made with a single smiths, but yeah it might be getting played up a but much. I do agree it seems like a small number given the total smiths, but if that number is being cut by the skill of the smiths, the smiths that need cards from the guild instead if procuring there own, and we are talking about the variety they have access to then it can make sense, it’s not crippling the smiths, just putting strain on an area of the guild.

Jason Sampson

The way I see it is that Irwin just cleaned out the rainy day fund. There are a lot more cards in circulation, but they belong to individuals. The guild as an entity should also have cards, but many of those are used for things. Then you have the guild's reserve which they save in the event they need to pay for something unusual where reforming can't be used as payment.

Eric M

So if they have 500,000 smiths in the city, how is 1700 cards a lot of cards? I mean the competition they just had probably used 1,500 at least. Not suggesting they get more cards, but maybe tone down the idea it is a crippling number that will have ripple effects for a year or two. Love the chapter, just a suggestion. 😁
