Very well put Melissa! We are with you!✊❌✊❌❤️❤️

Absolutely incredible! The pain and ugly cry Oda has the characters convey are amazing and so emotional
OnePieceLover321
Just subscribed to see this particular video a day ahead of time. Fun fact: Whenever oda draws a character that is crying, he always make it like that they are trying to fight against their own crying, a resistance against their own emotions you might say, that's what makes the build up so amazing

Ohara story reflects what our goverments fear the most in real life, knowledge! The anti intellectual agenda that is being pushed even today is so so scary, if you pay attention it is always those on the wrong side of history are the ones trying to ban books, burning libraries and how funny with all of the current issues and the living conditions of the actual US citizens like homelessness and the fact that the health system is a joke and the goverment... is banning tiktok -.- They will always fight to be able to control the narrative I feel you Heather! We were all sobbing with you T_T Is so increadible to hear Robin finally say she wants to live :3
Jason DeVan
Hey Nicholas, agreed! Hope all is well!🤗🫶🤗🫶

This is the episode i watched your channel for, loved the emotional reactions when watched you do live action and then again with nami back story in both live and anime and new i would love this one, there maybe other sad (temporarily depressing) back stories but don't know if any of them hit as hard in my opinion
Jason DeVan
Haven’t seen to many, but we’d have to agree! Honestly in all of cinema history it’s right up there!👍💯👍💯

“I want to Live!” One of the best scenes in One Piece if not all of anime.
Jechtsphere
In the scene where Robin tells everyone that she wants to live, it cuts to a shot of all of the members of the crew. However, one shot is different from the rest -- Zoro. Before it cuts to his face, there is this really short cut where Zoro pulls out his sword a bit, and then puts it back into the sheathe. People might think that this means something along the lines of maybe getting ready for battle, but it actually means something else. This is actually an old practice called "kincho" which was used by Samurai. The drawing and sheathing of the sword in order to make the metals hit each other signifies a vow that has been made and cannot be broken. In other words, this scene shows Zoro's personal oath and commitment to answer Robin's wish and rescue her.

This comment express perfectly why we love you Tina: always on point and kinda of learning awesomeness. That's why I'm pretty confident that OP LA will not disappoint me: I know that whoever is running the show, is as fanatic as I am and we notice from the hundreds of little Easter eggs that we can find in every episodes. And even the little changeds are enjoyable. Plus, the main purpose seems in his way to be accomplished: let knows this opera to the main stream viewer that usually don't get anime/manga a chance. To all of us I'll say: you are missing out a lot.
Davide Garofalo
Dear nakamas, stops being so incredible. I'm tired to put hearts on the comment above.
Jules Louise
I end up crying like a child every time I watch these episodes.
Voltakackackack
There are many moments in one piece where dialogue is in fact said, but purposefully left out from the reader/viewer, presumably Dr. Clover did in fact say the name of the ancient country, but Oda doesn't want us to know it yet, but he does want us to know Robin heard Clover say the name.
Jason DeVan
No worries ☺️☺️❤️❤️
Verk
oh okay i understand. thank u
Jason DeVan
We skipped from 279-283 we thought they were fillers?
Verk
where is the episode 279?
Jason DeVan
Oh wow!!!! Good to know and we will definitely check the dub versions out! Thanks Molto_Benny! This arc and many scenes, including Robin’s “ I want to live” is a staple of greatness!🥹🥹💯💯✊❌✊❌
Molto_Benny
Robin's "I want to live" moment always brings me to tears, whether it's in sub or dub (the dub actress KILLED IT for that scene btw). This saga of Water 7 and Enies Lobby is my favorite in the entire show. There are so many great moments in these arcs that really move me, but Robin screaming her wish to her friends always destroys me. I always have to take a moment after and gather myself every time I watch it, cuz it's so powerful. Even more than 800 episodes later, this scene is still my favorite in the entire show, and it's probably one of my favorites in any form of media.

It truly is a masterpiece! ❤️❤️

The English voice actors stated it during a q&a at a convention. There are spoilers once we're all caught up I'll post the link here. It is on the YouTube channel convention coverage.

Absolutely iconic moments, I watched this as it aired many moons ago and it was just pure tears leading to Robins declaration of wanting to live. I sobbed then and every time I’ve watched it since, gets me every time. I love the crew so much! I love One Piece!

i think you are lying why would oda care for english voice actors?
Kenji
i think its just symbolizing that he is now determined to fight for her since before he had doubts if he can trust her or not and now its confirmed for him that she is a nakama that needs to be protected

Oda cooks like gas is free. It's incredible how 1 man has been able to move so many people's hearts multiple times and with every possible emotion.

It's sad when there are people out there who are not giving this show a chance because of how many episodes there are... never judge a book by its cover. I'm glad I decided to stick around after your live action reaction, this is going to be my 3rd watch through since my second watch through was with a family member a few years back, yet so many episodes came out since then it's exciting to see where the story goes!

When I first read this part, I was kind of cynical about the backstory. I was a teen at the time, and I kind of thought to myself “I can tell he’s just shoving in an emotional backstory so the readers will care” and it didn’t really click with me at first. But even as a cynical reader when it got to that “I want to live” moment, I had to stop and just kind of stare at it. It just hits so hard. Now I tear up just thinking about it 🤣

I'm not even sure if this is true but, I heard the moment right after Robin says she wants to live. When Zoro draws his sword half way and sheathes it. I guess its meaning is its a samurais promise or vow or something like that. Great reaction like always!
Christopher LoBosco Jr.
Every time I watch these episodes, there's always tears. It's a powerful backstory and an even more powerful feeling of hope that the Straw Hats, spearheaded by Luffy, give you. I'm with you that this moment didn't make me a fan, I already was, but these moments solidified One Piece as one of my favorite stories of all time. One Piece did surpass all others and became my favorite story. It's one that I will cherish for the rest of my life, there's so much to pull from this story and it is so worth sharing and enjoying with others. Thanks for embarking on this journey and sharing it with us. I can't wait to see more of the impactful moments ahead (oh boy are there more ahead), there's still so much more left to see!!

I watch both subbed and dubbed depending on how much I want to relax. I feel like both sets of voice actors have their strengths and weaknesses. And fun fact if you didn't know oda actually picked out the main voice actors for both sub and dub. Sorry a little off what I was wanting to say. There are 4 scenes on one piece that I feel that is highlighted in both languages very well. 2 are in the future, this moment with Robin ( I wanna live) and the zoro vs. Mihawk on the bartia. I'd recommend just watching these 2 scenes in the dubbed. I'd like to know your opinion.

I agree with you. The more you watch Luffy, the more you associate him with this embodiment of light at the end of the tunnel, goodness and joy. In fact, your observation and feeling of Luffy is much deeper than you think. But we'll talk about this in 800 episodes :)
Cutler
Completely agree 👍
AnimeTeeJay
This moment in the live action will probably hook the rest of the world on to the anime lol its that powerful.
SomeoneElse
Robin wishing to live after being driven to do the opposite at every point in her life is so freaking powerful. What a crescendo that moment is. Also you are so right about Luffy's impact as a character during these kinds of moments. He instils absolute confidence in these hopeless moments and has the power to change the vibe of everything just by being there. He's my favourite character of all time and it's not even close. When someone asked the Live Action showrunner what moment he wants to get to the most, I'm fairly certain he said this one. This moment in the Live Action will change lives Great reactions!
Martin Hagen
Also to add on; Luffy could have easily had Usopp shoot the flag, thrown a punch and go on to free Robin, but he wanted to hear that Robin was willing to fight for herself. He wanted Robin to get to a point where he wasnt just saving someone who felt there was no place for her in life or no family for her. He wanted her to realize she had her nakama.
JustRojo
I haven't had a good cry in a while and I felt the same as Franky did, the Straw Hats stole my heart! :'(
David Ramier
one of the greatest scene of the serie. but i still looking for my favorite arc in the future. One piece is my favorite show of all time. i love you guys ! nakama for life

I read all the comments. I was going to say something profound and emotional...but I found myself crying like a baby again, although I know the story, I've seen it a dozen times....but words don't come out just now. You guys said everything and the tears are choking those two little cells left in my brain (the ones helping me to type this), so what else can I add?!! Heather, I was a mess too rewatching this!! The part when Robin is on that little boat and tries to laugh the way Saul taught her, it seems to go on for hours and the tears can't stop flowing. Then just when you think there's no more tears left, you see the life she had for the last 20 years and you understand why she wants to die. But (in the words of the Crow), it can't rain forever, and Luffy is like a ray of sunshine through the storm. Great writing Oda...you did it again, you made me cry on this episode for the 12th time! 😭
Kit
You might be surprised at how many times I've heard similar stories to yours. It's a lot lol and it always makes me smile and laugh. Glad you're with us on this journey.
Kit
I know it's an ongoing joke, that I too participate in, with Sogeking and Ussop being different people. But I have to give love and props to my boy Ussop for not hesitating to shoot that flag down. I'm glad you mentioned that, most people gloss over that part. Ussop is arguably the MVP of this arc.
Juice DaNinja
Wow.... this is such amazing story and I feel connected to alot of it. We were talking on discord recently about the show - "Frieren Beyond Journey's End" and how it took me 3 times to start it but ended up watching it all. ( I'm sure if I thought about it harder I could come up with other shows that fit that category. Lol sorry for the ramble your back story for OP is awesome.

This is my favorite episode of One Piece ever. And my second favorite is coming later in this arch. And I'm not saying that One Piece gets bad from here on out. I'm up to date on the One Piece anime and its still this good even after 1000 episodes. You guys are on a long but incredible journey.
Cutler
Sorry they're just at least one more thing I feel like I have to say about this episode. And it's about the reaction of the crew after hearing Robin's telling them how she really feels about the straw hats. Not all the reactions were the same but they came from the same place Sanji ,Nami and chopper all could only say her name but there faces say how can we get through to your heart ❤. Zoro saying so that how it is and his face saying I'll doing anything to do what's best for you robin even if it takes me killing all those assholes i will.. excuses my Language. Then doesn't take Luffy much time to do what is right because he knows his crew and what robin needs at this moment telling Usopp too shoot through the root of the problem Simultaneously putting a target on their back just as big as Robin's target on her back giving her no reason to not to trust them because they have accepted her burden. Last but not least usopp not Hesitating for a second to put the biggest target he can fucking put on his back. Usopp to me already accomplished his dream he just hasn't noticed yet and it comes from his heart.
smileyface
i knew this was going to hit hard i did a 12 hr overnight shift and its 5:30pm i refused to sleep til i watch this reaction it’s so worth it there’s going be a lot of those coming forward and im here with you thru it all i still feel like you haven’t hit the worst yet and im looking forward to when you do I seen Jason tears now im forward to seeing him cry on the episode i think is going hit the hardest
Rising Kar
I swear to this day I still get tears fckg hell man its like slaps after slaps of peakness
Martin Hagen
What you said at the end about seeing Luffy is so true Jason! Luffy is an interesting character because he doesn't change much over the course of the seasons. We get to know him so well, and know when it comes to his values he's unshakable. So when standing in a situation where he'd rather declare war on the world just as a symbol for Robin to see that they're not going to abandon her, isn't even surprising because of course Luffy would do that. Beautiful writing.
Fold
No matter how many times I watch these I know I'm going to spend the hour and a half crying.

And yes in the past commercial break drove me insane But the Robin halftime scene is even better after her back story is released Super attractive woman with a mysterious past but deep down she's just loves knowledge .
Ming GAO
His laugh can always make me happy
Cutler
Hell ya!
Cutler
Love this feel the same.
Cutler
Sorry to many post I'm just too pumped up. This is why I said its good you took a break to the happiest place on earth. Isn't robin just like a Disney princess but way better who wasn't just a victim but a woman who survived. The archaeologist princess protector of dreams and knowledge.
Long Huynh
Kinda like giving you joy when you see luffy's face
Cutler
I also meant to say a quincidence not acquaintance.
Ming GAO
This world is so hard and life is so hard but Luffy will always lead you to the hope
Cutler
I meant to say frustrated
Cutler
Sorry I feel like I ranted a little bit there but this is why I get thrushed when people say anime is not for kids. Of course anime for kids of course anime is for adults it's for everybody to love and enjoy and learn from. why I'm completely against any type of censorship. Knowledge is sacred.
Ming GAO
Tbh, Luffy's emotional intelligence always surprise me. He can always see through people and give them what they really need even though themselves may not know their true wish sometimes. Our captain is amazing. As long as Luffy is existing, there is no such things called fear at all
Cutler
This is why people say one piece is the greatest story ever told. Oda truly takes his time telling the story that he's out to tell and to send The message he wants to teach. People say all the time that long-running series have the problem of dragging on and even some people say that some arcs are said to be slower. I highly Disagree with this. this whole time since after robin first met the crew as there enemy to me has been Robin's Ark or telling us who robin is and who she is with the group and how they grow with her and how she grows with them. Not even that is why oda is the greatest writer not even the fact that he slowly brought you to tears out of the sadness of Robin's past and slowly building it up at the perfect pace to then suddenly changing it to a tears of pear happiness that she finally found her family. To me even the arcs that are slower and have the majority of people say are slower has some of the best episodes ever there's an episode nothing happens and without a doubt is one of my top 3 favorite episodes. And absolutely none of that has to do with why I think oda is the greatest writer why I think oda is the Greatest writer is because of the community he has built and I believe after reading the reviews this episode just confirms what I believe. I feel zero toxic comment within the community. I watch reactors on other shows but almost all reactors that at least I have seen have all been shocked about how non-toxic the community of one piece fans are and I believe this is Not acquaintance but oda of having more of 20 years telling a story of friendship , Empathy, intelligence, emotional intelligence and sending out those messages of 20 years to raise these people to be better. This anime is a 100% for kids and a 100% for adults. Showing people and reminding people that the world is hard and that there's good people out there there there's bad people out there but no matter what you stick to your morals then you know you can't go wrong. Stick to your dreams try your best and love your friends.
Ming GAO
I also like Usopp's response to Luffy "Roger" without hesitation. Even after fighting with Luffy and left the gang, Usopp still follows Luffy's order without hesitation. Our straw hats are straw hats forever
Ming GAO
After 20 years of being betrayed again and again, Robin finally find straw hats, the friends she would love to be together with forever, and she is so scared that she would rather choose dying than facing straw hats abandon her eventually. Luffy didnt reply what Robin said, instead he proves to her by shooting through the flag. Such a powerful scene. This "I want to live" always gets me. Robin's whole life is so hard.
ic1025
One Piece is a HAPPY and FUN experience. Don't mind the tears streaming down my face, I am quite enjoying myself here. Like you can't imagine what it's like to explain why you love One Piece to people who haven't seen it. "OH I love One Piece, it makes me cry" and then they look at you like you're insane Derishishishishishi

Congratulations for surviving the infamous episode 278, and its “I want to live” moment. I felt the need to hug Heather at some point as the emotions reached their peak. I hope you enjoyed Robin’s backstory. It took its sweet time to come, but worth it. The epic moments in this arc aren’t over, but we get a well deserved break, after this one, with some good fighting episodes. Jason is so right about Luffy’s positive presence at the end of a tough episode giving us hope. He is this type of character for the people in the show and for us as well. All the straw hats have met him when they were at their lowest, unable to follow their dreams, crashed, and with a wish to die (Robin). Luffy came and brought life and joy back into their souls. He is the best.

I'm 36 now, I was in my 20's when I saw this for the first time. I was depressed because I had family issues, had started living with roommates running away from violence, and didn't see a way out other than letting everything go... When I saw this I cried so much because I saw a light of hope in my friends who are the family I chose and never got to enjoy, they became my One Piece and I became forever in love with this anime. I learned to rely on my friends and I too allowed myself this little desire of wanting to live. It is no exaggeration to say that it saved my life at the time. I'm so glad you guys got to watch this episode that means so much to me and to all of us who have been rejected or mistreated. Can you imagine getting to this point in the live action? Thank you nakamas! Now let's get ready for some epic fights! Let's go!!

if heather cried in this backstory wait until you see what Oda cooked in the next arcs, he doubles down
ic1025
He's still fighting it to be tough guy, but we all know true tough guys don't fight their tears, they let them fall down their face as trudge forward into the fire one step at a time.
EgregiousGrievous
One Piece has been with me for over 20 years and I will never tire of it as many times that I have seen it. The culmination of this arc to E278 is the pinnacle of story telling IMO. I had a feeling E278 would hit hard for you Heather and Jason.

You both has been such a blessing in my life and I’m so grateful to be apart of the family!🥹
Bryan
This is why one piece is the GOAT!

This one broke heather 😭

Best reaction ever, did Jason say he teared up? Did one piece finally breakthrough???
Tina
Most of us are crying with you Heather. Even if we have watched it 20 times, the more you see it, the sadder it gets. Saul telling Robin that "No one is born into this world to be alone." always hits me, I think everyone at some point has felt alone. This probably has been shared before, but I felt it's fitting for this episode. Matt Owens the showrunner shared this story when he was trying to convince Oda to let them do a live action. “I told Oda, ‘One of the great things about One Piece is it’s really a story about how everybody has tragedy, pain, sadness in their life, but it’s not what defines you. What defines you is how you use that to motivate your future, and that no one has to do it alone. No one has to be alone. When you find those people around you who motivate you, lift you up, and help you, that’s the greatest power in this world. And that is the story I want to put out into the world. So I know that One Piece means a lot to you, Oda. It means a lot to me, because I honestly think that One Piece saved my life.’ He looked me in the eye, and he held his hand out across the table and said, ‘I have 100% faith in you now.’”

Incredible episodes and incredible arc and the crazy thing is, there are even better arcs to come. My number 3 anime of all time.
Zanetti
The reason I love One Piece so much is because Oda tricks you with this colorful, silly world of cartoonish pirates, dreams, and adventures. But once you reach Water Seven, it becomes clear that this is actually a dystopian world, and Luffy is the thing that’s out of place. So you can see that the people in the story are kinda overwhelmed by his positivity at first because it doesn’t make sense to them.
adam john peters
Ya I am the one who it took to 278 to actually enjoy the show my story with one piece is a little unconventional..I am 29 now but when I was 17 I tried giving one piece a shot I made it to episode 63 and for the life of me I could not get into it I wasn't viking with the character designs and the type of storytelling that was in the show was something I could not appreciate at the time and I gave up on the show until I was 27 and I got into a argument with a friend whether which show was better bleach or one piece I was arguing for bleach and he was arguing for one piece despite neither of us actually watching the the other show fully...kinda a pointless argument.so to prove my point I said fine I will watch one piece again and I will watch every episode so I can argue why my show is still better and I started my one piece journey as kinda a hate watch to prove a point and for the first 2 hundred episodes or so I literally couldn't find enjoyment in the show and it wasn't really until episode 278 where a switch flipped in my brain and I found extreme love for the show and now I like one piece more than bleach so the jokes kinda on me..and since then I have watched through the show twice on my own and going through a 3rd with you guys
ic1025
I have rewatched One Piece at least 5 times, and this backstory is the one part I can never bring myself to rewatch because it's so emotional. But I'm watching it again with you guys. I first saw this part as a teenager, and the Robin section of "I just want to die" because she didn't want to be burden to those closest to her resonated so much with me at that time, and then the crew is like "that's fine but you have to be with us before you decide that" and then Robin screaming she wants to live it's AAAGH, I'M CRYING WHILE TYPING. The overwhelming emotions are just so much I can't but I will this time. WAAAAAAAAHHHHH I'm Franky crying over here
Nick
love the hats heather LMAO. yall at a amazing part of the show and it only gets better
