So the Filler is basically a giant Recap of everyone's backstories. 279 shows Luffy standing their and then flashes back to him as a kid with Shanks. This is also when they put in a different version of original intro. The reasons the sides are cut off is, beginning One Piece was in Full Screen then switched to wide Screen.

You can and should definitely watch the last two openings you missed! Opening 5 for Water 7 arc and Opening 6 for Ennies Lobby arc, these won't spoil anything for where you're at.

Ok so to clarify for H&J. This is a re dub of the 1st opening. The voice actors of the Straw Hats are singing instead of the original singer. Now all other openings besides a special one for the 1,000th episode are different. I won't spoil the special opening for you though. + You can watch up to opening 7 after episode 325 to completely avoid spoilers.

It was the first opening but straw hat crew voice actors are singing it. There is full version on youtube where even Zoro and Chopper got their own verses to sing 😄

whoever is telling you, you can watch the openings only mean the first opening you saw at the beginning of water 7 not the one that you are currently watching and also this opening is a special cuz the voice actors were singing the openinh and not the actual singer to celebrate one piece probably 10 years of op anime or something like that i dont remember

So, regarding Spandam the douche, it was Franky who hit it in the face with a gun he stole from the marines when they were taking Tom away. Now you know why Robin's my favorite character, and as you already mentioned, OMG! The voice actress did an explendid job! She deserves an award!! It's great to have both Heather and Jason coming up with theories, you're just like all of us when we saw this for the first time, even now there are some crazy theories you will eventually hear. XD
