So episode 187 the title screen is not right after the reacp of the previous episode, there's actually a couple minutes of footage that leads into the backstory and the title screen sequentially lets us know that we are going back in time, for this part we see Wyper as a kid being told about the great shame Calgara had. There's a few episodes here and there where they do that so just be aware otherwise you might miss some context.

btw the reason why the shandians said its gods doing for stopping noland when the earth erruption happend was cause noland stopped the sacrificial ritual as a punishment. since back then people believed natural disasters/phenomenon (for example tsunamis, hurricanes, volcano erruptions, storms, etc.) are caused by gods. i jokingly say that aswell if someone pisses me off i say becuz of you somewhere in the world a hurricane is happening! XD back in the days you believed gods having the power to control the weather which is why they say god of sun or god of rain, etc. thats why enels power fits him so well! another thing is that from nolands perspective he comes from an island that is more advanced than other islands cuz they do research and go explore the world! thats why they understand that there are diseases, plagues, sickness etc. caused by food, plants, etc. many sacrificed themselves to experiment to find out solutions. in his eyes the shandians ignore all their efforts and solutions and thoughtlessly kill eachother even though you could prevent all this. in the shandians eyes noland is the shameless one cuz he doesnt believe in god and ignores all their cultural differences and their religion.

Also since we are approaching the end of this arc, you guys should make a note to watch the coming filler arc. I think 196-206. It's nothing crazy but beloved by fans. It's well animated and has some great/funny moments. Probably the only filler arc that people would want you to watch

History depicted Noland as a foolish liar, and it's what we came to believe as well, when in reality he was a badass. It's such cool writing, and kind of eye opening as well. Now I'm not going to go and doubt history lessons lol, but I'm not going to believe everything at 100%. It's like, take in history, but leave a little room open to question stuff sometimes. Also it's easy to not recognize this detail but the Earthquakes happening here are likely due to the Knock-up Stream that we rode to Sky Island. Kalgara even says "it's like the island is being ripped apart". That's a really cool and kind of subtle detail Keen for more!

It is one of my favourite backstories!!!! OPLA Nami was reading the storybook to Zoro when he was in a coma. The storybook was "Noland the Liar", it was a reference to the earlier storybook in Montblanc Cricket's home. It was not appeared in East Blue though, in canon.

Noland's flashback episodes are some of my favorites in all of One Piece. Noland is also my favorite character in all of OP. Can't wait to see the other episodes. Noland's chestnut on his head is a reference to a dessert called "Montblanc" (chestnut purée). The girl they wanted to sacrifice is named "Mousse", another French dessert. Sidenote: Do you remember in the Netflix Live Action when Zoro was resting on the ship after being defeated by Mihawk? Nami was reading from the book "Noland the Liar" to Zoro.
