Dev Update

This is the programmer for Midnight Paradise, Maim Lain.
For those who don't know me, after Midnight Paradise was ported to RenPy I helped with the code in the past few updates, and when work started on 0.6 I became responsible for all the programming in the game.
Most of you were probably expecting an update to be released around now instead of this post, and unfortunately I'm here to let you know that Lewdlab and I need a little bit more time to work on the update. (pepehands)
All of the new 0.6 scenes, renders, and animations are finished, but there's a lot more happening in this update than just new scenes.
It might seem weird that this update has taken so long to release compared to the past few updates, so this dev update is going to hopefully explain the scale of this update.
The first thing I'd like to let everyone know, since Lewdlab may not have communicated this very well, is that this update is not a normal update.
There are a lot of new scenes in the update, around double the amount of renders and animations than most past updates, but there's a lot more that's been done in this update besides just new scenes.
This update isn't like the 0.4 or 0.5 updates where only new events were added to the game. And this update isn't even comparable to the 0.3 update, which was the update where the game engine switched to RenPy (but despite the engine switch and new UI, nothing about the game actually changed in that update).
The 0.6 update changes and improves everything, and all of the code in the game has been rewritten to allow these changes. I only have time to mention a few of them, so here are some big ones:
Navigation & rooms:
The new navigation system we've implemented was shown a couple dev updates ago. So there's no more clicking rectangles at the top of the screen to move places. You can now click and move around the house naturally.
But who cares about navigation if there's nowhere to actually go? Personally, previously Midnight Paradise sometimes felt like a doorknob clicking simulator, going from door to door around the house clicking the tiny doorknobs to try to trigger events.
That's why in this update we've added 14 new locations! You can now actually enter every room and location in the game. You'll see different things there depending on the time of day and other factors, which leads into the next new feature.
Character schedules:
Something else we've implemented is character schedules. Before it was only possible to interact with characters once per day. Joyce and Ruby in the kitchen, Isabel on the couch, Ms. Jane in her office, etc.
In this update we've given each character a schedule of places they will be based on the time of day, so you can now see and interact with characters all around the house at different times of the day.
For example, Joyce can be seen: doing yoga in her room (and clicked so you can do yoga with her), in the kitchen, working from home, or in her bed at night.
Scene gallery:
The scene & extras gallery has also been completely remade. The design and navigation has been improved, the gallery is now sorted by character, thumbnails are higher resolution, and scenes that are new in the latest update are now highlighted so you can easily find which scenes are new.
A ton of other improvements:
There's waay too many other things to mention that have been improved. If you ever felt like you were "stuck" trying to trigger events or progress the story, that's been fixed now. The flow of story progression has really been improved by removing many gratuitous event trigger requirements.
The map screen has been improved, it's now possible to repeat previous massage, yoga, and tutoring scenes, and there were even events in the game (that I didn't code, so I don't take the blame :P) that had extended scene versions that were always skipped and impossible to see due to bugs in old code that have now been fixed.
There's really too much to mention and cover in this post.
It's possibly my fault that the update is being delayed. I've been very ambitious with the improvements I've added to the game, so we need just a little bit more time to add a few more things will really make parts of the game better, and to also ensure that there aren't any bugs caused from rushing out a release.

Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know that I've been trying to improve my part as well, and not just with the amount of new renders and animations.
I did an effort to improve my writing, especially during lewd scenes. I tried to write better, longer and more descriptive stuff. Hopefully you'll notice at least a tiny bit of step up in quality.

I am halfway DoD, and probably will be 40$ patron from January. Can you explain why your discord isn't working? I only have channel, but there are no sub-channels in it, and I can't write a thing. It's also registered under different name than me and it won't work in a Discord application. People complaining about delays, shouldn't watch TeamFourStar or Something Witty Entertainment - for those who don't know 2 best abridged anime creators. Often month or 2 (or six) of delays isn't anything new. They always deliver quality material though.
sorry If i've misuinderstood you. I just read that post below with: "Everyone who has had an active pledge in the 10$ tier or above in November will get the 0.6 update in December via private message." I'm kinda new here and was a 40$ Patreon before. I guess the elite build will released at last not as first. Sorry for that Dr. Sin.

What are you talking about? The Elite tier gets it first as it has always been over the years. The people who were in the Elite tier in November will get a private message today since I have received no bug reports so far. Then the $10 tier and upwards gets it 3 days later, again, like it has ALWAYS been, and people who were patrons in those tiers in November get them via PM when the general version is released. Please read the post again if you don't understand what I've said.
40$ for a update? Cmon... you said, all over 10$ subscription will recieve it in a private message first... im kinda disappointed again :/
Yea it's been over 10 days since the last update and that was already late. This is inexcusable disregard for his supporters.

A couple things... - Linking your Patreon account to Discord is the best/quickest way to stay in contact with creators. This is also where you can have your questions answered by the dev himself, or by mods/admins (when online). Any one of us could have helped you get the game downloaded within minutes. You can link your account by going into your 'my profile settings' here on patreon in the upper right. - Anything coming from lewdpatcher is done via third party, meaning Sin has no control and/or affiliation with it.
Same here. I've been a $40 patron right around a year. Not having a update since Aug, my payment will be reduced soon.
He's not exaggerating at all. I am one of those $40 patrons and he had expressed how I feel with amazing accuracy.

I think im gonna cut and run right after getting my well deserved update.
I am beginning to think that if there are no new updates to actually play the game, a good idea would be to stop paying and come back in a month or two to see if all these promises were real or just bs. Based on past two months, bs has a strong lead.

I know with so many backers you don't have time to read Messages via Patreon. In what other way can I communicate with you? I want to raise my subscription from 15$ to 40$, but I get the feeling you don't give a damn. It took me almost a week to find a way to download your game, without help (I'm new to this kind of Patreon, where you download something) Also try sponsus.org. If you have too much 40$ backers, perhaps try to make even higher tiers? And maintain lewdpatcher, so it works on your newer games. I know it is hard to aim for vanilla AND perverted demographics, but you could do it (Loving relationship with naive cousin, soundproof dungeon for your wicked sisters? Ideas are endless)

I will be honest. I am getting tired of excuses for delays. Nice games you create, but with the extra rare releases (It was august, when thelast release happened), I am at the verge to ask myself the question: do they worth it? And by this, if I cant see a release soon, then I will reconsider my support options.

Greetings. I don't think Big T is exaggerating at all, i think he just put to words what the majority is thinking .i don't think that if the flow of money stopped everytime there's a big delay in output we'll be having this conversation.
I like the game. The graphics, storyline, ect...., but I do agree that patrons, regardles of how much they pay per month have a right to expect an update at least once a month. I am glad to hear about all the improvements that are being worked on, but maybe it is too many at once. Lately the updates are starting to sound like excuses. Speaking for myself I would like to know exactly when the next update will be released with no excuses.

Hi BigT, I think you`re exaggerating. As I was a Patron of Devs, who didn`t communicate whatsoever(maybe once every 6 months), I am very fond of even a little bit of information given to me. So I scrolled down and I saw a post from the Devs almost every 2 weeks... I think they do a good job comunicating with us Patrons
Only problem I see is he said for weeks itβll be released, then says 48 hours and after 48 hours they say itβs not wven close. Just say that from the beginning instead of throwing out completely ridiculous timelines you knew that you wouldnβt hit in the first place. But still looking forward to it.
Problem is it's been what 2.5 to 3 months since an update? Now I get it takes time and Dr. Sin needs to focus on health and what not, all for that. However, when you have people who pay $40 a month for quality content they are going to have expectations and they haven't been met recently. There are over 2500 patrons here. So let's say 200 of them donate 40 a month your looking at 8k right.... add the rest and it's a much higher number. With that kind of cash flow your going to be expected to give something in a certain time frame that meets the needs of your customer and I think what most people are stating is that they are not receiving that and feel the product isn't matching to the payment at this point. No one ever complained before that I can see. The product itself when released in a timely manner is superb to be fair. For me I just think there needs to be a better form of communication to those who are funding this program, so maybe a weekly post of something in the nature of "hey this is what's going on and we are shooting for a time frame of X." But still great work to the team at Lewdlab and excited to see the reaults.

Take a deep breath, fellas. Lain is often found writing python algorithms while counting sheep, just to make things mildly challenging for himself. If you recall from the post above, all the visuals are already finished and Lain is a man possessed when it comes to fulfilling things on his end. I'm only speculating on this, but all things considered we're prob talking a handful of days here, not weeks.
Yeah next year is a no good for me. I won't even be able to get new updates for a while soon and I've been a $40 pledge for months now. If this doesn't come soon. I definitely will be a $1 by new year

So Dr sin does the graphics and you do the code and mechanics. Only now have you started working together? Because it will definitely speed up the work
