I think this is the first time I've ever seen anyone react to The Puppetmaster with so much more enthusiasm than terror xD "Katara learned a new skill, I can't wait to see it in action" is… fair, I guess, but I don't think that's the reactions the writers or even the animators were going for.

This is my Theory, I believe Hama and Kana/Gran Gran were close friends; Before the fire nation attacked. Like that is literally young Kana seeing her friend being taken away. The references in the flashback are uncanny, Hama story is valid.
