Something I find interesting is that Toph's motivation in this episode is pretty underexplained, which is why I can understand the confusion. But consider that Toph, not that she would ever admit that, probably needs to prove to even herself that she indeed can take care of herself by herself. She may be an earthbending master and be a confident gal in general, but if you've been told by everyone around you your whole life that your disability hinders you beyond help, you're gonna have some self-doubt, whether you admit it or not. I can understand why she wouldn't want to be part of team, even as the party being relied on.

Glad you put together why Iroh was distracted. Most reactions ive seen theyre just like "nooo iroh would never be distracted makes no sense"
